The MHS curricular choral groups provide a comprehensive and progressive program aimed to meet the needs of high school singers at any level, from beginning through advanced. A variety of performance, competition and learning experiences are offered to meet the variety of singing levels and interests. The different choirs perform at community, contest and school events; and individuals participate in various honor choirs, as well as the district OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest. The Choral Department is on a three year rotation with the Band and Drama Departments for taking an out-of-state trip. Milford is proud to invite students to participate in this high-quality program, whether you are preparing to major in music, or you just love to sing. There is a place for you in the choir!
Mixed Choir - our introductory choir where singers, grades 9-12 learn the basics of vocal technique and music-reading - no audition necessary
Concert Choir - our intermediate choir for singers grades 9-12 that provides a more challenging musical experience, more performances, and competition experience - audition required (Feb.-March)
Chamber Singers - our advanced choir for grades 10-12 for singers desiring to challenge themselves with a high-level musical experience. This group does quite a bit of travelling and competing - audition required (Feb.-March)
In addition to the curricular choir offerings described above, MHS also offers two extra-curricular contemporary a cappella choirs. These groups are auditioned, and rehearse in the evenings. Mrs. Carpenter holds auditions for these prestigious groups in the spring and fall. Listen and watch for the announcements.
Intensity - our beginning/intermediate contemporary a cappella choir where students in grades 9-12 can learn the basics of singing in this very specialized style. This group rehearses once a week. Fall auditions
Notable - our advanced contemporary a cappella choir where students in grades 10-12 experience the thrill of singing Pentatonix-style music in lots of venues. This group travels quite a bit, and rehearse twice a week.
