Boys Cross Country Readies For ECC Championship
SETTING THE SCENE: The Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship will be determined this week, as runners gather at the home course of the Milford cross country teams. The Eagles will focus on the ECC meet following a third place finish at last week’s Ross Invitational.
A LOOK BACK: The Eagles placed third of twelve teams at the Ross Invitational on Sat., Oct. 7, behind GCL teams Elder and Moeller. The boys cross country team was led by Clayton Virzi (5th, 17.01) and Harris Craycraft (9th, 17.15). Sean Vonderhaar, the third Eagle to the finish line, completed the course in 17.49, good for fourteenth place. Rounding out the Eagles: Peter Kroeger (25th, 18.34); Will Stout (31st, 18.54); Michael Faler (41st, 19.20); and Payne Ackermann (43rd, 19.27).
Nick Fox of Taylor claimed the individual championship with a time of 16.36. Elder won the team award, as all seven Panthers finished in the top twenty. Though there were no ECC teams competing at Ross, the Eagles will see a number of these competitors in the postseason.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Eagles look to make an impression this Sat., Oct. 14 at the 2017 Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships. The Eagles finished in fourth place in both 2015 and 2016, an improvement over their sixth place finish in 2014.
Saturday’s meet will be held at the Eagles’ “home” course, Valley View Nature Preserve. The boys varsity run is scheduled for 9:00 am, with the boys open run at 11:00 am.
In addition to Milford, competing schools in the ECC include Anderson, Loveland, Kings, Turpin, Walnut Hills, West Clermont and Withrow.
INSIDE THE ECC: Few changes occurred in the ECC standings, as Milford’s top runners remained Clayton Virzi at third and Harris Craycraft in eighth. The rankings held for other Milford runners in the top third of the conference, including Sean Vonderhaar (38th), Peter Kroeger (45th), Dylan Mullarkey (66th), Will Stout (70th), Brian Wang (83rd), and Karl Chavez (85th).
POLL WATCH: While St. Xavier and Mason held at the first and second positions of the area coaches’ poll for week seven, one ECC program moved up in the rankings among the top five. Kings climbed to third, driving Elder down a spot to fourth while Lakota East held at fifth. Turpin jumped two spots, to sixth from eighth. Anderson (23) and Loveland (14) received votes. Walnut Hills fell out of the poll and Milford received no votes as well for week seven of the coaches’ poll.
