Boys Golf Back At It With LaSalle Invite, Start Of ECC Play

SETTING THE SCENE: After just over a week off from competitive action, the Milford High School boys golf team returns to the links this week with a pair of events on its schedule. Following a solid kickoff to the season in three tournaments thus far, the Eagles start this week at the LaSalle Invitational at Clovernook Country Club on Monday morning. On Wednesday another season of Eastern Cincinnati Conference head-to-head play begins with the Eagles hosting Turpin. The Eagles are being led this season by senior Nathan Arnold who already has two medalist honors to his credit.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Monday, Aug. 22 at LaSalle Invitational, Clovernook CC, 7:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 24 vs. Turpin, Hickory Woods GC, 3:30 p.m.
    • 2016 Dual Record: 0-0
    • Top Player: Collin McAninch (39.0 average)

 

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 9 at Anderson Invitational: The Eagles opened the season against a large and competitive field at Anderson’s Invitational held at Legendary Run Golf Course on Aug. 9. When the dust had settled, the Eagles finished fourth in the stout 18-team line-up.

 

Aug. 10 at ECC Preseason Tournament: Milford took its first step towards defending its two consecutive Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships by taking top honors in the league’s preseason tournament at Glenview Golf Course on Aug. 10. Senior Nathan Arnold proved to be the day’s top player as he fired a round of 72 to take medalist honors by two shots over Turpin’s Cash Renfro. In the team standings, the Eagles totaled a score of 307 to top Loveland by five shots. Senior Aaron Wade also earned a top-five, tying for third at 75.

 

Aug. 13 at Sycamore Invitational: Senior Nathan Arnold recorded his second straight medalist honor, shooting an even-par 72 to take the top spot at the Sycamore Invitational. The event was contested at the Blue Ash Golf Course on Aug. 13.

 

POLL WATCH: In the most recent weekly Division I area coaches’ poll sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer and released on Aug. 22, the Eagles moved up one spot to fourth and received one first place vote. St. Xavier again is the top-rated team with seven of the 12 first place votes, just ahead of Lakota East who earned the other four votes. Mason in third and Elder in fifth round out the top-five. The ECC is also represented by Loveland in eighth, along with Turpin, Anderson, Kings and Walnut Hills in the others receiving votes.
