Boys Soccer Puts Four Match Win Streak On Line As Regular Season Winds Down

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School boys soccer team, winners of four straight, will be out to improve upon that number and try to climb the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings when it returns to the pitch twice before the end of the current week. The Eagles enter this week flying high at 8-2-3 on the year, while residing fourth in the ECC standings at 2-1-2. They can take a step towards advancing in the standings during Thursday’s battle with Kings, the current third place squad. During the current win streak, Milford has outscored its opponents by a 16-1 count.

THANK YOU SENIORS: Senior Day will be celebrated at Charity J. Lucas Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 7 in conjunction with the Eagles 2 p.m. match-up with Indian Hill. Prior to kickoff, the senior class of Cameron Burnett, Brady Evans, Ben Gerding, Stephen Hobson, Blake Holtman, Jacob Remm, Limo Rustom, Ryan Schroeder and Trey Smith will be honored for their contributions to Milford Soccer over the past four years.

 

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 28 vs. West Clermont: Taking on the new West Clermont High School for the first time, the Eagles got the better of the Wolves by a 4-0 score. Sophomore Noah Burnett extended his team-leading goal count to 11 with a pair of goals, while classmate Joey Round also found the back of the net twice, upping his goal total for 2017 to five.

 

Sept. 30 at Lebanon: The Eagles took to the road and extended their win streak to four with a 2-0 win at Lebanon. Senior Stephen Hobson had a hand in both of the Eagles’ goals, tallying assists on scores by seniors Blake Holtman and Trey Smith. Holtman’s tally was his second of the year, while Smith scored for the fifth time in 2017.

POLL WATCH: Milford’s four-match winning streak has pushed the Eagles back among the top-10 in the Oct. 2 edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll in 10th. Moeller is at the top of the rankings this week, earning 18 of 23 first place votes to narrowly edge ECC power Anderson who garnered the other five. Mason, Fairfield and another ECC squad, Turpin, complete the top-five. Other league squads to receive votes include Kings, Loveland and Walnut Hills.
