Busy Week On The Road For MHS Boys Tennis

SETTING THE SCENE:  This week Milford’s boys tennis team will be on the road for a full slate of matches, including three conference contests and an invitational.  The Eagles dove right into the season with three in a row at home last week, and opened the season with a convincing win over Oak Hills. 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford’s boys varsity tennis team won the season opener on Monday, a 5-0 victory over Oak Hills High School on the Eagles’ home court.  The roster for Milford included sophomores Holden Owens (1st singles) and J. Kendall Morehouse (3rd singles); junior Jared Gibson (2nd singles); seniors Logan Chrislip/Zach Jaquillard (1st doubles); and sophomores Reed Spencer/Ben Mason (2nd doubles).

The first ECC conference match for Milford was Tuesday’s home match with Anderson High School.  Unfortunately, the #8 Redskins overcame the Eagles, 4-1.  Winners for Milford were Spencer/Mason at 2nd doubles.

Milford lost a close match, 2-3 with #10 Elder.  Gibson, playing 3rd  singles, pulled out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win, and the 2nddoubles team of Spencer/Mason extended their winning streak with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford looks ahead to a week of five matches; four in a row including #7 and conference foe Kings, along with an invitational at Wilmington on Saturday.

  • Tuesday, 4/12:                  Milford @ Kings High School, 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, 4/13:            Milford @ Loveland High School, 4:00 pm
  • Thursday, 4/14:                 Milford @ Glen Este High School, 4:00 pm
  • Saturday, 4/16:                 Milford @ Wilmington Invitational, time TBA

*Monday’s match with Mariemont, #6 in Division II, was postponed due to rain and will be rescheduled for May 3rd.

INSIDE THE ECC:  Milford is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.  Kings and Loveland lead the league, both 1-0 in conference play, while Anderson is 1-0 early in the season.  Milford’s 2nd doubles team of Reed Spencer/Ben Mason lead the ECC in 2nd doubles, and are undefeated three matches into the season.  Logan Chrislip/Zach Jaquillard are 1-2 in 1stdoubles, as is Holden Owens playing 1st singles.  J.Kendall Morehouse is 1-1 in 2nd singles and Jared Gibson is 1-1 in 3rdsingles.

POLL WATCH:  Four schools in the ECC are ranked in the top ten for week two of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll.  Sycamore took over the top spot from Mason, who fell to second.  St. Xavier is ranked third, followed by the ECC’s Turpin and Moeller.   Walnut Hills of the ECC rose from eighth to sixth, while Kings fell to seventh from fifth.  Anderson fell one position from last week, now in eighth.  Glen Este and Loveland both received six votes, while Milford enters the poll with one vote in week two.
