Girls Golf Moves Into First Duals Of 2017 Season

SETTING THE SCENE: With two tournaments in the books, the Milford High School girls golf team will now begin the dual portion of its 2017 schedule with a trio of matches this week. The season teed off last week with the high point coming with a fourth place finish at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference’s Preseason Tournament. The Eagles were led in their first two tournaments by a pair of juniors in Megan LaFrance and Angel Oliveros. The upcoming week promises to be busy with duals scheduled against Turpin, Oak Hills and Mount Notre Dame.

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 8 at Sycamore Invitational: Milford’s season-opener took place at the Walden Ponds Golf Course as the Eagles tallied a 17th place finish in the Sycamore Invitational with a team total of 416. Centerville ran away with the team title, outdistancing a pair of teams from Ursuline. Junior Megan LaFrance took top honors for the Eagles, carding an 18-hole score of 92.

 

Aug. 10 at ECC Preseason Tournament: A big improvement was the story of the day for Milford at the 2017 Eastern Cincinnati Conference Preseason Tournament as the Eagles knocked their team score down to 383 to finish fourth of the league’s six golf sponsoring schools. Junior Angel Oliveros was the top finisher on the Walden Ponds course, as she tied for eighth with a score of 90.

 

POLL WATCH: Milford did not receive any votes in this week’s Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Ursuline is the big favorite, earning eight of the 10 first place votes to take the top spot. Mason took second with one first place vote, followed by Sycamore, St. Ursula and McAuley rounding out the top-five. Loveland of the ECC earned the final No. 1 nod and is sixth, with Kings and Turpin in the others receiving votes section.
