Posted on: October 23, 2016

SETTING THE SCENE: Payback and a sectional championship will be on the minds of the Milford High School girls soccer team when the Eagles take to the turf at Hamilton High School for an OHSAA Sectional Finals match-up with Oak Hills on Tuesday night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. After receiving a first round tournament bye, the Eagles (7-7-2) knocked off Sycamore by a 3-1 score in their tournament opener on Saturday night. Taking the next step into districts will be a tall order for the 10th-seeded Eagles as they will take on No. 2 Oak Hills for the second time this year. The Highlanders (16-1-0) are on a 15-match winning streak (including a 4-1 win over Milford) and knocked off Harrison by an 8-0 score in its tournament opener.

POLL WATCH: The final weekly coaches’ poll of the 2016 season shows Milford as the 10th ranked team in the area according to the 19 voting coaches. Loveland took the poll title by a sizable margin with 17 of the 19 top votes, ahead of Oak Hills (two votes), Mount Notre Dame, Fairfield and Mason completing the top-five. LONG TIME COMING: The Eagles picked up a huge victory on Sept. 3 as they upset Mason by a 1-0 score at a sun-drenched Charity J. Lucas Stadium. Junior Bryn Rolfsen found the back of the net for the match’s only score with approximately 30 minutes remaining in the second half. The win pushed the Eagles past the area’s No. 2 ranked team in this week’s Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for the first time since the 2011 regular season.
