Girls Volleyball Opens Conference Play This Week At Anderson, Loveland

SETTING THE SCENE:  The MHS varsity volleyball team will enter the second week of competition at 2-1, following a tough, five set loss to McNicholas.  The Lady Eagles will have an opportunity to make an impression in the ECC this week, as the first conference matches of the year await.  Dates with Loveland and Anderson, both of whom are ranked in the top ten of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll, will be on the road.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford hosted Talawanda on Sat., Aug. 19 for their season opener and came away with a 3-1 win. Milford easily took the first two sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-5. Talawanda battled to a 26-24 win of the third, but the Eagles took a 25-12 win of the fourth to claim their first win of the season.

On Tues., Aug. 22, Milford sent Sycamore home in straight sets.  Milford dominated the Aves, winning 25-15, 25-21, and 25-16.

The Lady Eagles lost their last match of the week, a heartbreaker to McNicholas on Sat., 8/26 in their first match on the road.  After a 25-18 Milford win in the first, the #3 ranked hosts fought back for a close 27-29 win.  The back and forth continued, as Milford rebounded with a 25-22 win in the third, only for McNicholas to take the fourth set 19-25, forcing a fifth.  McNicholas prevailed to take the match, 12-15.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford opens conference play with two rivalries and both on the road.  The Eagles will first face Anderson, followed by another ECC foe in Loveland.

  • Thursday, 8/31:                    Milford @ Loveland High School, 7:00 pm

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  With Eastern Cincinnati Conference league games yet to be played, the fight for the ECC is wide open.  Following just three games, a number of Eagles are already leaders in the EEC top 10.

POLL WATCH:   Week two of the Enquirer coaches’ poll finds a change atop the poll, as Ursuline Academy passed Mason to take the top ranking for the week.  Mason fell to second followed by Mount Notre Dame, St. Ursula and Mercy in the top five.  The ECC’s Loveland fell to seventh from fifth, and Anderson entered the poll in eighth. Milford received seven votes, while Turpin (12), Kings (8), Walnut Hills (6), and West Clermont (2) each received votes in week two.
