Girls Volleyball Opens The Week Hosting West Clermont For First Ever Meeting

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s girls volleyball team looks to get back on track as they return to the home court for two of three in the coming week.  The ladies will host West Clermont followed by a road game at Turpin, before closing the week at home with Western Brown. The road was not kind to the Lady Eagles last week, and they fell to a 2-4 overall record following three away dates. 

 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford headed to Anderson on Tues., Aug. 29 for their first ECC match of the season. The Lady Eagles lost the first set 25-11, and dropped the second with a close score of 25-23. Anderson took a 25-13 win of the third set, and the Eagles fell 3-0 to the #8 ranked Redskins.

The second match of the week was at #7 ranked Loveland on Thurs., Aug. 31.  Loveland captured the first two sets 25-15, and 25-12. Milford nearly rebounded to take the third, but fell 25-19 and Loveland collected the conference win.

Saturday found Milford at Oak Hills, where the Highlanders defeated the Eagles, 3-0.  Milford was in each of the games of the three set match, but lost 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  Milford will have two opportunities for their first conference win as they face West Clermont for the first time, and Turpin in the days ahead.  The Lady Eagles will close out the week hosting Western Brown.

  • Thursday, 9/7:                      Milford @ Turpin High School, 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, 9/9:                      Western Brown High School @ Milford, 1:00 pm

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  Loveland and Anderson are tied atop the Eastern Cincinnati Conference standings after week two, both 2-0.  Kings, West Clermont, Walnut Hills and Turpin are all 1-1, while Milford and Withrow are 0-2 and seek their first conference wins.  Lady Eagles who are currently ranked in the top ten of the ECC include:

Attacks:  Cami Malott (1), Kristen Bales (9), Lisa Sullivan (10)

Serves: Sullivan (t-6), Ava Stokes (t-6)

Assists:  Abby Thierauf (4)

Digs:  Sullivan (3), Kristen Bales (4)

Blocks:  Erica Sharp (7)

Passing:  Bales (9)

 

 

POLL WATCH:   The top five schools in the Enquirer coaches’ poll for week three were consistent, though there were changes in the rankings.  Ursuline Academy held onto first, while Mount Notre Dame rose to second and Mason fell yet again, to third.  Mercy rose to fourth followed by St. Ursula. The ECC’s Loveland moved up to sixth from seventh while Anderson fell to ninth.  Milford received three votes, down from seven the previous week, and Kings (12), Walnut Hills (9), Turpin (6) and West Clermont (3) joined Milford in receiving votes in the poll for week three.
