MHS Girls Cross Country Heads to Ross Invitational This Weekend
SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s girls cross country team will take a relatively rested team to the Ross Invitational, the last regular meet of the season prior to the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championship. The Eagles finished 7th at the Kings Invite last week.
A LOOK BACK: It was evidently Emma Beck’s turn to take the lead for the Eagles, as the freshman set a new personal best of 20.52 on her way to a 20th place finish at the Kings Invitational. Joining Beck in the top tier was classmate Olivia Loeffler (25th, 21:15) and sophomore Andrea Armstrong (27th, 21:19). Marissa Detore (47th, 22:05) and Cymone Horton (52nd, 22:13) finished close together, as did Brooklyn George (23:07) and Audrey Moore (23:17), 89th and 94th respectively.
Milford ran to a 7th place finish among eleven outstanding teams. The ECC’s Turpin finished first, followed by Lakota West. Another pair of ECC teams were near the top, as the host school Kings finished third, and Loveland fourth. Sam Bush of Turpin, as has been the case at many events this year, won the overall race, crossing the finish at 18:17.
THE WEEK AHEAD: The Eagles, who have been idle since the Kings Invite, will have had some rest before heading into the final regular season run at the Ross Invitational. The Ross invite is scheduled for Saturday, October 8th, and racing will begin at 9:00 am.
INSIDE THE ECC: The rankings for the Eagles did not see much change in week six. Olivia Loeffler (21st) and Emma Beck (23rd) remain the leaders for the Lady Eagles among the ECC’s top runners. Milford’s other top five runners continue to rank in the top fifty of the ECC as well; Andrea Armstrong (31st), Cymone Horton (33rd) and Marisa Detore (40th).
POLL WATCH: Just one change occurred in week six of the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll and it involved the fifth place team. The top four remain unchanged; Mason, Turpin, Kings, and Ursuline Academy. Lakota East moved up to fifth over St. Ursula. Milford did not receive any votes in week six, but the ECC was represented by Loveland (14), Walnut Hills (4), and Anderson (1).
