OSHAA Districts Next For Girls Cross Country

SETTING THE SCENE:   Following a sixth place team finish at the ECC Championship meet, the Milford girls cross country team now looks ahead to the OHSAA Southwest District Championships this Saturday, Oct. 22nd at Voice of America Park in West Chester.  

 

A LOOK BACK:  The ladies were the first group to take the start line.  Milford’s Andrea Armstrong led the Lady Eagles, and her time of 20:07 was a new personal best for the sophomore and good for 13th place overall.  Armstrong was followed by senior Marisa Detore, who finished 26th with a new personal best time of 21:08.  Close behind was freshman Olivia Loeffler in 27th (21.10), and senior Cymone Horton (32nd, 21:24), who equaled her own personal best time from earlier this season.  The remaining Lady Eagles finished together in 40th, 41st, and 42nd:  freshman Emma Beck (22:04), sophomore Katherine Perez (22:05), and senior Trista Whitt (22:15) respectively.

The individual championship for the girls was won by Hannah Rasmussen of Kings, in 18:02.  Samantha Bush of Turpin took second (18:24), and Rasmussen’s teammate Leah Maschino was third, crossing the finish line in 19:20.

With six runners finishing in the top ten, Turpin won the team championship, followed by another strong team, Kings.  Anderson took third, though Walnut Hills was close behind in fourth.  Loveland followed in fifth, while Milford, less than ten points behind, finished sixth.

 

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The 2016 OHSAA Southwest District Championships will take place on Sat., Oct. 22 at Voice of America Park in West Chester.  Voice of America Metro Park is located at 7850 VOA Park Dr, West Chester, 45069.

Two races will be held for the girls in Division I.  The Lady Eagles are scheduled for Race B (2), which will include twelve teams and will begin at 10:30 am.  The top four teams will advance to Regionals, as will the top sixteen individuals.

    1. Parking: There will NOT be a charge for park admittance and/or parking.
    2. Admission to Cross Country Course: $6.00 for all spectators (including seniors/school aged kids, and athletes/ coaches not included on pass list).

Schools participating at the Division I West Chester location for girls races include Amelia, Anderson, Colerain, Fairfield, Glen Este, Hamilton, Harrison, Kings, Lakota East, Lakota West, Little Miami, Loveland, Mason, McAuley, Milford, Mother of Mercy, Mt. Healthy, Mt. Notre Dame, Northwest, Oak Hills, Princeton, Seton, St. Ursula Academy, Sycamore, Turpin, Ursuline Academy, Walnut Hills, and Winton Woods.

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  For the second week in a row, Andrea Armstrong jumped up in the ECC standings and leads the Lady Eagles within the conference.  Armstrong’s career best 20:07 at the ECC Championships moved her to 13th from 20th; Emma Beck follows at 27th, while Olivia Loeffler is now 29th.  Marisa Detore remains at 37th, and Cymone Horton is 45th in the top fifty of the conference standings.

 

POLL WATCH:   With ten first place votes, Mason will end the season at the top of the final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll.  The ECC’s will finish the year in second, followed by Ursuline Academy, Kings, and Lakota East.  Anderson (4) and Loveland (2) were the only other ECC teams to receive votes in the final poll of the 2016 season.
