Posted on: November 9, 2016

The Milford High School Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that six members of its Class of 2017 will continue their athletic careers on the collegiate level. The student-athletes that have committed to continuing their academic and athletic futures include: Nathan Arnold (Men’s Golf-Wright State University), Skyler Fontaine (Women’s Water Polo-Mercyhurst University), Jack Hannah (Men’s Lacrosse-University of Denver), Matt Kirk (Baseball-Morehead State University), Kelsey Seitz (Softball-Trevecca Nazarene University) and Valerie Thompson (Softball-Tennessee State University).

Arnold enjoyed a decorated prep career for the Eagles, twice capturing Eastern Cincinnati Conference Player of the Year honors. A three-time district qualifier, Arnold also won ECC Tournament Medalist honors in two of his final three prep campaigns. As a senior, Arnold paced the conference in scoring with a 37.2 nine-hole average over 171 regular season holes played.

At Wright State, Arnold will play for former Raiders golfer Pete Samborsky, who in 2012 was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year. Nathan is the son of Scott and Karen Arnold.

Fontaine is a three-time All-Ohio first team selection in water polo for the Eagles. As a senior, she finished the campaign with a team-high 105 goals, while adding 39 assists and racking up 52 steals. Her efforts helped Milford to a seventh-place finish in the Ohio State Water Polo Championships and a final record of 19-9.

At Mercyhurst, Fontaine will play for long-time Lakers head coach Curtis Robinette who is in his 14th season. Skyler is the daughter of Robert and Robyn Fontaine.

Playing for the final Milford squad that will compete as a school-sponsored club, Hannah enjoyed a junior season to remember capped by receiving All-American honors from U.S. Lacrosse. He was also a second team All-Ohio and first team all-region selection. The Eagles’ program will transition to a full varsity team for the 2017 season.

At Denver, Hannah will play for legendary collegiate lacrosse coach Bill Tierney. Tierney has won over 350 games during his long career and led the Pioneers to the 2015 National Championship. Jack is the son of Paul and Vanessa Hannah.

Kirk’s first season as a varsity baseball player was a good one as he earned first team All-ECC honors, while helping the Eagles win the conference championship and advance all the way to the OHSAA Regional Finals. For the season, Kirk hit .371 in 31 games, with 12 doubles, four triples and 24 RBI. He also stole five bases for the Eagles.

At Morehead State, Kirk will play for Mike McGuire who is in his fifth-year leading the Eagles. In 2015, McGuire led Morehead to an NCAA Regionals berth and followed that up with a 32-win campaign last spring. Matt is the son of George Huesman and Kathleen Kirk.

Seitz has made a major impact on the Milford Softball program since day one of her career, earning All-ECC honors all three years. She was also the 2015 ECC Player of the Year in addition to a two-time All-Ohio honoree. As a junior, Seitz hit .571 with a team-high 28 RBI, despite missing several games. She also paced the club with five triples, while adding eight doubles and eight stolen bases.

At Trevecca, a highly-successful NCAA Division II program, Seitz will play for head coach Ben Tyree who has led the program to several NCAA Tournament appearances. Kelsey is the daughter of Jeff and Denise Seitz.

Last spring, Thompson was brilliant in her first season as a full-time pitcher for the Eagles, grabbing first team All-ECC, honorable mention All-Ohio and Cincinnati Enquirer Co-Player of the Year honors. Thompson capped her junior campaign as the most dominant pitcher in the ECC, the lefty posted a 19-3 record in the circle, including 10 shutouts, while holding a 1.01 ERA and limiting opponents to a .165 average. She also struck out 134. At the plate, Thompson hit .338 with four doubles and 22 RBI.

At Tennessee State, Thompson will play for head coach Tom Opdenbrouw, who is about to start his fourth season leading the Tigers. Valerie is the daughter of Troy and Luann Thompson.

These are the first six commitments for the MHS Class of 2017 to be announced. Further signee information will be shared throughout the 2016-17 academic year as it is finalized.
