Three ECC Contests Ahead For Boys Tennis

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s boys tennis team has a challenging week ahead, as they face three straight with conference rivals including Glen Este, Anderson and Kings.  The team headed to Centerville High School and returned with a win in a non-conference date last week as they improved to 4-3 overall.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford won their lone match of the week, a 3-2 decision over Centerville Black.  At first singles, Holden Owens defeated Gollamundi 6-2, 6-0, and Ben Mason won at second singles, 6-2, 6-3 over Dhaliwal.  J Kendall Morehouse fell to Rowland at third singles, 3-6, 0-6.  The Eagles’ doubles teams split their matches, as Eppers/Gibson won over Peters/Daskalakis 6-2, 6-4, while Ostrander/Spencer fell to Kathula/Kishinchand, 3-6, 2-6 at second doubles.

 

A LOOK AHEAD:  As Milford heads into the middle of the season, a trio of ECC opponents await the Eagles this week, including Glen Este, #6 Anderson and Kings. 

  • Tuesday, 4/18:                     Glen Este High School @ Milford, 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, 4/19:                 Milford @ Anderson High School, 4:00 pm
  • Thursday, 4/20:                    Milford @ Kings High School, 4:00 pm

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  Milford improved 4-3 overall, and stand at 0-2 in conference play.  Walnut Hills leads the ECC at 2-0, followed by Anderson and Turpin, both 1-0. Loveland and Kings follow with 1-1 ECC records, while Glen Este and Milford trail at 0-2. 

Holden Owens is 6-1 overall, 1-1 ECC at first singles, with Ben Mason 4-3, 0-2 at second singles.  At third singles, J Kendall Morehouse is 3-3, 0-2.  Jack Eppers/Jared Gibson are 3-2, 0-2 at first doubles, and Reed Spencer/Mark Ostrander, at second doubles, are 0-3, 0-2.

 

POLL WATCH:  There were no changes in the top four of the area coaches’ poll in week three, as Mason, Sycamore, St. Xavier and the ECC’s Turpin maintained their positions from week two.  However, Lakota East moved up to fifth, and Anderson and Walnut Hills are now tied for sixth.  Loveland moved up to ninth from tenth, while Kings fell out of the top ten.  Milford received thirteen votes, up from seven last week, and Kings received ten votes in week three.
