Two ECC Dates And Volley For The Cure Up Next For Girls Volleyball
SETTING THE SCENE: The highlight for the upcoming week is the MHS girls volleyball team’s annual cancer fundraiser, which will take place on Sat., Sept. 17th as they host Volley for the Cure. The volleyball program will host Little Miami, and the day’s events will include raffle baskets, split the pot and a bake sale. The team will also have a “Real Men Wear Pink” contest. In addition to the fundraiser, the volleyball squad will have two opportunities to find their first ECC win, as they head to Walnut Hills and Kings this week as well.
A LOOK BACK: The Eagles lost a hard fought battle Tuesday at Glen Este. Milford started strong with a 25-17 win in the first set, while Glen Este took the momentum with wins in the next two 19-25 and 12-25. However, the Eagles rallied in the fourth, and with a 25-13 win forced a fifth, where they fell in a heartbreaker, 13-15.
Thursday’s ECC matchup was another challenging task, as Milford faced #5 Turpin, another conference rival. Turpin, who returned all of their starters from the 2015 conference championship team, took down the Eagles at home in three straight sets, 19-25 16-25 12-25.
THE WEEK AHEAD: Milford will have the opportunity to move up in the conference standings this week, as they face conference schools Walnut Hills and Kings. A win over Walnut Hills would move the Eagles into a tie with Walnut, who previous secured a win over Withrow. Milford will also welcome Little Miami on Saturday for the annual Volley for The Cure event.

INSIDE THE ECC: Milford sits at 2-7 overall and at 0-4 are still seeking that first conference win. Anderson and Loveland (4-0) remain tied at the top of the ECC standings followed by Turpin at 3-1 and Kings and Glen Este, both 2-2. Walnut Hills is just above Milford and Withrow at 1-3. POLL WATCH: The top four from last week’s poll remain, yet the order has been scrambled and Ursuline Academy received the most votes in the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for week four. St. Ursula moved into second, and Mason remained at third. Mt. Notre Dame, last week’s top vote getter, fell to fourth and Mercy moved up to fifth. Eastern Cincinnati Conference member Turpin, previously ranked fifth, fell to eighth and remains the only ECC member in the top ten as Loveland fell from the rankings. The ECC’s Anderson (48) received the most votes just outside the poll, followed by Loveland (33), Walnut Hills (5), and Glen Este (4); Milford did not receive any votes in week four.
