All-ECC Honors Include Four Milford Wrestlers

Posted on: March 15, 2018

Four members of the Milford wrestling team were named All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference recipients for 2018.  Kobey Bronaugh and Max Ward were named first team all-conference, while sophomore Isaac Sheldon was named to the second team.  Junior Derek Elliott received honorable mention.

During the 2017-2018 season, Bronaugh earned his 100th career win at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships in the second match of the day, becoming the 7th wrestler overall to claim 100 victories and the first to accomplish it as a junior.  He won the ECC Championship title as well as his third consecutive MIT championship. Bronaugh won the #126 title at the Oak Hills Duals, and was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive year.  At the Sectional Tournament, Bronaugh finished in third place at #126, winning by pin in 2:33.  That third place finish earned him a trip to Districts where he rebounded from an opening loss and defeated another wrestler he lost to earlier in the year.  He secured a sixth place finish after a close 4-3 loss to one of the top seeds.  Bronaugh finished the year with a 43-9 record.  The junior earned first team honors for the second consecutive year, and was previously named second team All-ECC in 2016.

Ward joins Bronaugh on the all-conference first team.  The sophomore won an ECC individual championship at #120 by fall in 1:36. The ECC meet was his first since returning from injuries following December’s tournament at Edgewood, where he finished third.  Ward found success at Sectionals, working his way through the consolation rounds to advance to a fourth place finish following a loss by just one point.  At the 2018 District meet, Ward was able to avenge an early season loss, as well as a 6-4 win in overtime.  His final record for 2018 was 17-9.  Ward was named second team All-ECC in 2017.

Isaac Sheldon received second team recognition, and was the runner-up by fall at the ECC Championships at #132. A sophomore who only competed at the varsity level since January of 2018, Sheldon was one of the most improved wrestlers and finished the season with a 10-10 record.

Honorable mention was awarded to Derek Elliott.  Elliott (#160) finished fourth at the ECC Championships. He was a consistent performer for the Eagles finishing in the top 4 of team leaders for wins (15), falls (8), and takedowns (45).  At the 2018 Sectional meet Elliott finished 2 and 2.
