Annual Trek to Ross Invite Ahead for Boys Cross Country
SETTING THE SCENE: Nearly two weeks ago, Milford boys cross country team ended the day in fourth place, the best team finish of the season thus far and where A.J. Dickerson won the individual crown. The Eagles now look forward to the Ross Invitational as they build momentum toward the Eastern Cincinnati Conference meet and the postseason.
THE UPCOMING DOCKET: The Eagles are back in action at the Ross Invitational on Sat., Oct. 6. In 2017, the Eagles placed third of twelve teams at the Ross Invitational behind GCL teams Elder and Moeller.
The Ross Invitational will be held at Ross High School, located at 3601 Hamilton-Cleves Rd in Hamilton. The varsity runners will take the trail at 9:30 am, with the boys open race set for 10:40 am. Ross will be charging $4 per person to enter the stadium area to watch the meet from the stadium area where the finish is located.
A LOOK BACK: On Sat., Sept. 22, A.J. Dickerson won his first individual title at the Harrison Invitational and led the Eagles to a fourth place finish; Dickerson’s time of 16:40 was a new career best for the first year runner.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Though just a few teams were active over the weekend, there were a few changes in the top third of the ECC standings. Individual standings as of Sept. 30: A.J. Dickerson (6th); Dylan Mullarkey (33rd), A.J. Kaylor (42nd), Zeke Edwards (64th), and Max McCann (91st). The Eagles’ overall record stands at 20-25.
ICYMI: A.J. Dickerson was nominated for the Cincinnati Enquirer Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24. The senior won his first career race when he took the top spot at the Harrison Invitational. A.J. finished the course in a time of 16:39.6, to win by nearly 10 seconds, helping the Eagles finish fourth in the team standings.
POLL WATCH: Though St. Xavier and Mason remain 1-2 in week six of the area coaches’ poll from the Cincinnati Enquirer, the fight for third and fourth reversed yet again. The ECC’s top programs flip-flopped from week five, as Kings has now moved back to third, and Turpin fell back to fourth. Elder held at fifth, while Loveland and Anderson held at seventh and eighth respectively. With Milford idle this week, Walnut Hills (7) was the only ECC program to receive votes for week six.
