Posted on: February 23, 2018

Junior Tyler Babinec, along with Milford’s 200 freestyle relay team have each qualified for the state finals during preliminary competition at the OHSAA State Championships, held Friday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Babinec has a strong chance for a podium finish in the finals as he qualified with the fourth-best time, a school record mark of 55.70. The top qualifier, Scott Sobolewski of Cincinnati St. Xavier posted a time of 55.17.

The relay squad, anchored by Babinec and also comprised of Chase Fisher, Branham Leavens and Sam Leatherwood finished with the eighth best time of the day, stopping the clock in 1:26.23 to advance to Saturday’s finals. The time broke the Milford school record that the same foursome established at last week’s district meet.

The same foursome also competed in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 18th with a time of 3:12.97.

The finals begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
