Babinec, Fisher Among Eagles Heading to Swimming State Championships

Tyler Babinec and Chase Fisher qualified for state championships at the OHSAA Swimming Division I District Tournament on Saturday. Babinec, who broke his previous record in both events, placed fifth in the 100 Breaststroke (57.35) and 10th in the 50 Freestyle (21.29). Fisher finished 23rd in the 50 Freestyle (21.79).

The two will join Branham Leavens and Sam Leatherwood in the 200 Freestyle Relay after placing 10th with a time of 1:26.99. Milford will also be represented in the 400 Freestyle Relay (Jarod Higgins, Fisher, Leatherwood, Babinec) after finishing in 3:12.44 to earn 12th at sectionals. Both relay teams set a new school record.

Babinec is seeded fifth in the 50 Freestyle and 10th in the Breaststroke, while Fisher is 23rd in the 50 Freestyle for this weekend's state championships. The 200 Freestyle Relay team is seeded 10th and the 400 Freestyle Relay is 12th.

The Eagles were well represented at Districts after earning spots in 13 events at Sectionals on February 11. Milford had the following District qualifiers:

The OHSAA Boys Swimming Division I State Championships will be held February 24-25 at McKinley High School’s Canton Branin Natatorium.
