Babinec Shatters School Record, Boys Swimming Finishes 17th at State Championship

Posted on: February 27, 2017

Sophomore Tyler Babinec earned the best finish in Milford’s history at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Swimming & Diving State Tournament on Saturday. Babinec finished third in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.20. He also earned an eighth-place finish in the 50 Freestyle (21.32).

“Tyler had a great season,” said head coach Kevin Metzger. “To be able to achieve third place at the state meet is an honor – especially as a sophomore.  Yes, breaking school records is phenomenal, but the third-place finish is probably the most memorable. To be able to say that you have achieved the highest finish in the history of Milford Swimming is even better.”

Babinec also joined Branham Leavens, Chase Fisher and Sam Leatherwood in the 200 Freestyle Relay, which finished 13th with a time of 1:27.81.

Babinec, Fisher, Leatherwood and Jarod Higgins earned 14th in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:13.68).

“All of our athletes trained so hard this year in the pool as well as outside of the pool,” Metzger said. “I am extremely proud of all of our athletes and their growth in the sport. Most importantly, our team grew on an intellectual level – we adopted core values through the "SOAR" acronym. They built an atmosphere that condones a high level of competition.”
