Baseball Report: April 20

Posted on: April 20, 2021

April 20 at St. Xavier: Milford 11, St. Xavier 9

GAME REWIND
Milford built a 10-1 lead that nearly evaporated after a St. Xavier eight-run outburst, but closer Jonathan Baker put out the flames for his fourth save of the year, preserving an 11-9 Eagles victory. Baker moved from shortstop to the mound with the tying run on base in a 10-9 game in the sixth, retiring the final four hitters of the game to wrap up a wild win for Milford.

The Eagles got off to a hot start with a two-run single by Bryce Perkins and a Chase Herrell RBI double staking them to a 3-0 lead in the first. Two Bomber miscues led to four more runs in the third as the Eagles built a 7-0 lead. Another two errors an inning later made it 10-0 with just three and a half innings in the books.

St. X got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth but really went to work in the sixth, exploding for eight runs to narrow the deficit to just 10-9. The Eagles gave themselves a bit more breathing room with a single marker in the top of the seventh.
