GAME REWIND

After falling behind 6-3 after two innings, Milford scored seven unanswered runs, including four in the top of the seventh to pull away from Little Miami by a 10-6 final score. Junior Hunter Johnson was the story of the day for Milford as he came out of the bullpen to toss five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight. The Eagles pounded our 13 hits on the day with five players collecting two each, including varsity newcomers Braden Pickett, Adam Yoh and Jonathan Baker.

GAME REWIND

For the second time in as many games, the Eagles played comeback ball, this time overcoming a 5-4 deficit on the way to a 10-7 triumph over St. Xavier. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Calvin Hunter and Brady Sluder highlighted a four-run first inning that staked the Eagles to a 4-2 lead. Following a three-run fourth by the Bombers, the Eagles plated three in each of the fifth and sixth innings, with RBI by Hunter and Sluder in the fifth and a two-run double by Braden Pickett an inning later. Things got interesting in the top of the seventh as St. X scored twice, but Anthony Bassano put out the fire to seal the win for Milford.

GAME REWIND

LaSalle broke open a one run game with six runs in the top of the seventh, handing the Eagles an 11-5 defeat and their first loss of 2019. Senior Calvin Hunter was solid on the hill to start, leaving after allowing two runs in four innings for Milford. Trailing by two in the sixth, the Eagles got a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Hunter Frank RBI single to make it 5-4. But in the seventh, the Lancers scored six times, with the big blast a three-run homer by Luke Thiemann.

Milford put up five runs in the bottom of the second and sixth more in the bottom of the fourth as the Eagles sprinted past Conner by a 12-5 score. Varsity newcomer Mason Harvey had a huge day at the plate, totaling three hits, including a pair of doubles, driving in three and scoring twice. Senior Brady Sluder tacked on three RBI in the win.

EAGLES TO TAKE PART IN SPECIAL EVENTS: Milford has been invited to participate in a pair of special events during the month of April with special ticket prices:

  • Thursday, April 18: Milford will battle Simon Kenton in the Florence Freedom’s High School Showcase presented by Wendy’s. The game will take place at the Freedom’s UC Health Stadium with a 5 p.m. first pitch. Pre-sale tickets are available by clicking here and are $7 for adults and $5 for students. $2 from all tickets purchased in advance of game day will be contributed back to Milford’s athletic program.
  • Saturday, April 27: The Eagles will once again take the field at Great American Ballpark, the home of the Cincinnati Reds for the Reds Futures High School Showcase. Milford will take on Centerville with first pitch set for 10 a.m. More information on tickets coming soon.

 

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLES: Calvin Hunter was the first member of the 2019 Milford Baseball senior class to announce his plans for next season. Hunter has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Marshall University beginning in the fall.
