A LOOK BACK: April 12 at West Clermont: Milford 12, West Clermont 8

 

GAME REWIND

Milford pushed six runs across in the top of the sixth inning as the Eagles earned a regular season split with West Clermont on the strength of a 12-8 victory. Milford went to work early, scoring three times in the top of the first, before the Wolves scored six straight runs to double up the Eagles at 6-3.

 

Milford though, would score two in the four and six in the sixth to take command. Grant Whitaker had the big hit of the sixth with a two-run double, driving in two of his four runs on the day. Calvin Hunter came out of the bullpen with three solid innings to earn his first win of the year, while going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, two RBI, two walks and a double.

GAME REWIND

Milford stranded 10 runners on base and was held to six hits as Anderson picked up a key 4-0 Eastern Cincinnati Conference victory. Anderson starter Charlie Crider crafted five shutout innings, before reliever Josh Pedersen closed things out. The Redskins scored twice in the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth for the win.

GAME REWIND

Another pitchers duel between Milford and Anderson, this time went the way of the Eagles as Zach Byron pitched MHS to a 3-1 win. Byron got his first win of the year with five quality innings, yielding just one unearned run and striking out six. Byron, along with reliever Sam Roth combined to allow just one Anderson hit on the afternoon.

 

The score remained tied heading to the bottom of the fourth when Hunter Frank snapped the 1-1 tie with an RBI single. One inning later, Calvin Hunter plated Sam Greenwell with a run scoring single.

GAME REWIND

Milford overcame a 3-0 deficit after four innings to knock off Simon Kenton by a 6-3 score in the Florence Freedom High School Showcase. The Eagles scored four in the top of the fifth with junior Cameron Hemmert’s two RBI single providing the big hit of the inning.

 

Hunter Frank and Braden Pickett each picked up RBI in the fifth, with a Mason Harvey RBI double in the sixth and a Jonathan Baker RBI in the seventh rounding out the scoring.

GAME REWIND

Milford scored 10 runs in the first three innings, then tagged on five more in the fifth to make quick work of Western Brown by a 15-2 score in a game halted after five innings. The pitching duo of Jake Becker and Braden Pickett combined to allow the Broncos just three hits in five innings in picking up the win.

 

The Eagle bats were led by Grant Whitaker and Brady Sluder who combined for seven RBI. Tyler Rawlins also took advantage of a rare at-bat with a bases clearing triple in the fifth inning that put the game on ice for the Eagles.

EAGLES TO TAKE PART IN REDS FUTURES SHOWCASE: On Saturday, April 27, the Eagles will once again take the field at Great American Ballpark, the home of the Cincinnati Reds for the Reds Futures High School Showcase. Milford will take on Centerville with first pitch set for 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 and include a ticket for Milford night at the Reds game at GABP on July 2.

 

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLES: Calvin Hunter was the first member of the 2019 Milford Baseball senior class to announce his plans for next season. Hunter has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Marshall University beginning in the fall.
