Berth In Boys Soccer District Final On The Line When Milford Takes On St. Xavier Monday

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School boys soccer team will take to the pitch battling for a spot in the OHSAA District Finals when the Eagles square off with No. 2 seed St. Xavier on Monday night at Princeton. The Eagles improved to 13-3-2 on the year after knocking off Withrow on Thursday evening. The triumph pushes the program’s streak to four years in a row with two OHSAA Tournament wins.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s OHSAA Tournament opponent:

  • Monday, Oct. 22 vs. St. Xavier {at Princeton HS}, 7:00 p.m.
    • 2018 Record: 11-3-3, 4-1-1 GCL (2nd Division I area coaches’ final weekly poll)
    • Top Scorer: Senior Gino Geiser (11 G, 5 A, 27 pts.)
    • Last Meeting: 2010; St. Xavier 1, Milford 0
    • Series History: St. Xavier leads 6-5-0

 

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 18 vs. Withrow: Milford stayed perfect all-time against conference rival Withrow and stayed alive in the OHSAA Tournament with a 4-2 win over the Tigers on the turf at Eagle Stadium. Three of the Eagles’ top four scorers found the back of the net, including junior Joey Round who tallied his team-best 15th goal of the year. Senior Cole Cambron and freshman Ryan Henke each scored their eighth goal of the year, while junior Noah Hjelming broke into the scoring column for the second time. Junior Noah Burnett and freshman Max Crawford each picked up assists in the triumph.

The schedule for ECC teams still alive in the tournament includes: No. 3 Turpin vs. No. 11 Lakota East (Oct. 22, 7:00 p.m. at Lakota West) and No. 4 Anderson vs. No. 29 Little Miami (Oct. 22, 7:00 p.m. at Sycamore).

POLL WATCH: Milford finished eighth in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Moeller was crowned this season’s poll champions, after earning all but one of the 17 first place votes. St. Xavier, Turpin, Anderson and a tie between Loveland and Mason complete the top-five. Ninth place Carroll earned the other No. 1 vote. In addition to four ECC teams in the top-10, Kings and Walnut Hills are among other schools receiving votes. ROUND, BURNETT WIN ENQUIRER AWARDS: Junior Joey Round and Noah Burnett, thanks to the support of Eagle Nation, have each been voted the winner of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Boys Soccer Player of the Week Award this season. Round won his award on Sept. 7, while Burnett was honored on Sept. 14.
