Boys Basketball Greets New Season With Friday Night Home Date Against Sycamore

Posted on: November 30, 2018

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: A capsule look at the 2018-19 team:

  • 2017-18 Record: 11-12, 8-6 ECC (NR Division I area coaches’ preseason poll)
  • Head Coach: Joe Cambron (18th year at Milford and as head HS coach)
  • Top Returning Scorer: Senior Jake Ayler (12.3 ppg)
  • Top Returning Scorer: Senior Brady Sluder (3.7 rpg)

A LOOK AT THE SEASON AHEAD: The Eagles will be looking to improve on last season that concluded with a disappointing 11-12 record. Much of that team is back in force with another year of varsity experience to their collective credit. Leading the way is returning All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference first team selection Jake Ayler. As a junior, Ayler led the Eagles in scoring, three-point and free throw percentage. He will look to parlay the success he enjoyed as a member of the record setting football squad this fall onto the hardwood.

The Eagles’ senior-laden roster also features another returning double figure scorer in senior Steven Huxell. Last season concluded with Huxell earning a spot on the All-ECC second team after averaging 10.5 points per contest. Other returning guards include a pair of defensive stalwarts in seniors Caleb Farrell and A.J. Dickerson, along with junior Jack Liles.

The front court is big and experienced with a trio of seniors in Connor Foster, Cade Riesenberg and Brady Sluder. Foster has grown to 6’8” and is a force at the rim. Sluder is Milford’s top returning rebounder at 3.7 boards per game, while chipping in 5.7 points. Riesenberg came on strong in the latter stages of last season and should be a steady contributor as well.

The Eagles’ roster is rounded out by a group of players that will also see time on the junior varsity squad. That group of juniors includes Cole Chaney, Adam Harris, Joey Round and Grant Whitaker.
