Boys Bowling Opens New Year Hosting New Richmond, at SWOC/ECC Challenge

THE UPCOMING DOCKET:  Though the holiday school break continues, Milford’s season resumes as the Eagles will first host New Richmond before the annual Southwest Ohio Conference/Eastern Cincinnati Conference Challenge for 2019.  Last year Milford’s boys team finished third of fourteen teams.

Thursday, Jan. 3:                New Richmond High School @ Milford, Cherry Grove Lanes, 3:45 pm

Saturday, Jan. 5:                  Milford at SWOC/ECC Challenge, Northwest Lanes, 9:00 am        

 

A LOOK BACK: December 17 at St. Xavier: Milford 2611, St. Xavier 2326

Franklin Abt was the top Eagle as Milford defeated St. Xavier; Abt posted a 382 series.  Kyle Fanning set a new personal high game for the season at 217 and season’s best 379 series.  Nick Murphy added a two-game series of 317, while A.J. Kaylor (200) and Nate Fiest (188) each rolled one game in the victory.

 

December 18 at Northwest: Northwest 3122, Milford 2850

Despite a loss to No. 3 Northwest, it was a day to celebrate as the Eagles posted their highest team score thus far this season and more individual season records were set.  Nick Murphy improved two new personal records for the year, a high game of 247 and high series of 445.  Kaylor rolled a 256 to set a new personal game record, as did Fiest with a 230 high game; Abt’s 405 series was a new personal best.  Nathan Hawkins helped the team score with a 215 in game one.

 

A LOOK INSIDE THE NUMBERS: With no ECC competitions over the past few weeks, the standings remain unchanged. West Clermont leads at 6-0 in the ECC followed by 3-1 Kings; Loveland is 4-2 while Anderson is 2-4; Milford and Turpin both sit at 1-3 in conference play and Walnut Hills is 1-5.

West Clermont continues to lead the league in team average, but that average fell from 1005.1 to 980.2.  Milford’s team average improved to 894.9, followed Loveland at 846.7 and Kings at 840. 1.

A look at Milford’s individual statistical leaders as of Dec. 30:

Average: Hawkins (1st – 212.9); Murphy (8th – 189.3); Kaylor (9th – 189.1)

High Game: Hawkins (5th – 257); Kaylor (6th – 256); Murphy (7th – 247)

Series High: Hawkins (1st – 506); Kaylor (t-4th – 464); Murphy (8th – 445)

 

ICYMI: Franklin Abt was nominated for the Cincinnati Enquirer Male Bowling Athlete of the Week for Dec. 23.  Against St. Xavier and Northwest, the sophomore led the Eagles by rolling a 787 series for the week.

 

POLL WATCH:  Milford’s boys team once again entered the top ten, this time in eighth in the latest area coaches’ poll released Dec. 24.  LaSalle held on at the top of the poll, while Elder moved to second and Northwest rose to third.  Mason fell from second to fourth, now tied with the ECC’s West Clermont who vaulted to fourth from seventh. Kings, who last week entered the top ten tied with Ross for ninth, fell out of the poll and did not receive any votes; no other ECC programs received votes in the poll for week six which can be found at http://preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
