Boys cross country Headed to Harrison Invitational
SETTING THE SCENE: The Eagles finished third at their own Milford Invitational last week, just four points out of first place behind ECC foes Loveland and Anderson. Now the boys cross country team will head into the second half of the season by competing at the Harrison Invitational.
A LOOK BACK: The Eagles nearly 1200 runners on Sat., Sept. 16th at the annual Milford Invitational. Milford finished in third place, led by Clayton Virzi (16.37) in fifth and Harris Craycraft (16:53) in tenth. Other top finishers for the Eagles included Peter Kroeger with a new season best 17.45 to finish 20th, and Sean Vonderhaar place 28th in 17.52. Freshman Dylan Mullarkey (46th) ran a career best of 18:15 in his first varsity race, followed by Will Stout (55th, 18.29). AJ Kaylor, another freshman, set a new career best as well with a time of 19.04, good for 87th place. Karl Chavez (99th, 19.30) rounded out the Milford varsity runners.
In what may have been a preview of the upcoming Eastern Cincinnati Conference meet, the top teams among a field of fifteen programs were ECC schools. Loveland, Anderson and Milford were the top three teams, separated by just four points. Walnut Hills finished in fifth, with Turpin ending the day in fourteenth. With a winning time of 16.12, Jack Lowry of Moeller crossed the finish in first.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Next up for the Eagles, the Harrison Invitational at Harrison High School, where in 2016 the Eagles finished second among a field of twelve teams. The boys varsity race is schedule for 9:40 am, with the open boys race at 11:00 am.
INSIDE THE ECC: A number of Eagles continue to rank in the top third of the ECC standings. Based on his time at the Xavier University Invite, senior Clayton Virzi maintained second in the ECC standings, and Harris Craycraft held onto fifth. Other Milford runners include Sean Vonderhaar (31st), Peter Kroeger (43rd), and Dylan Mullarkey, who with a new personal best of 18.15 at the Milford Invite moved up to 57th. Will Stout (60th), Brian Wang (76th), Karl Chavez (79th) round out the top Eagles.
POLL WATCH: Once again, the top four boys cross country programs remain unchanged in the boys cross country area coaches’ poll for week four. St. Xavier, Mason, Elder and the ECC’s Kings held onto the top four spots. However, Lakota East moved up to fifth, while LaSalle plunged from fifth to tenth. For the second week Anderson of the ECC moved down a spot, this week to seventh. Turpin, previously ninth, fell out of the poll but received nineteen votes. Loveland (15) and Milford (1) once again received votes in this week’s coaches’ poll.
