Boys Golf Faces Short Week With Single Dual On Schedule
SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School boys golf will be out to build on the strong start to the 2016 season it has enjoyed when the Eagles take on Anderson in this week’s only scheduled action. The Eagles won their Eastern Cincinnati Conference opener against Turpin last week and will gun for a 2-0 start in league action when it travels to Legendary Golf Course to take on the Redskins.
THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:
- Wednesday, Aug. 31 at Anderson, Legendary GC, 3:30 p.m.
- 2016 Dual Record: 1-0, 1-0 ECC (RV Division I area coaches’ preseason poll)
- Top Player: Kyle Redden (41.4 average)
A LOOK BACK: Aug. 22 at LaSalle Invitational: Taking on some of the top squads in the area, the Eagles walked away from the LaSalle Invitational with a solid sixth-place finish in a stellar 19-squad field. While Lakota East was 11 shots better than runner-up Loveland, positions two through seven were separated by just nine strokes. Senior Justin Arnold finished tied for second at the event with a score of 73, just one shot off the lead.
Aug. 24 vs. Turpin: The first Eastern Cincinnati dual meet of the season went to the Eagles as they scored a 154-162 decision over Turpin on Aug. 24. A trio of Eagles led the way as seniors Nathan Arnold and Aaron Wade, along with junior Tristin Woster each carded scores of 38.
INSIDE THE ECC: The early ECC standings show three teams, including the Eagles, each undefeated in league play. Loveland is 2-0 in the early going, with Anderson and Milford both victorious in their first matches. Individually, the Eagles feature the league’s top-two ranked golfers in seniors Nathan Arnold (36.8 average) and Aaron Wade (38.4). Sophomore Justin Horn is also among the top-10, tied for eighth at 41.1.
POLL WATCH: In the most recent weekly Division I area coaches’ poll sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer and released on Aug. 29, the Eagles came in sixth among the voting coaches. St. Xavier again is the top-rated team with nine of the 13 first place votes, just ahead of Lakota East who earned the other four votes. Mason in third, Elder in fourth and LaSalle in fifth round out the top-five. The ECC is also represented by Loveland in eighth, along with Anderson, Turpin, Walnut Hills and Kings in the others receiving votes.
