Boys Golf Takes To Road For Pair Of Head-To-Heads

SETTING THE SCENE: After competing just once last week, the Milford High School boys golf team hits the links for a pair of match-ups this week, one inside the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. This week begins for the Eagles with a league dual with Glen Este on the links at Stillmeadow Golf Course on Tuesday. One day later, Milford will make a trip across town to the Miami Whitewater Golf Course to battle Colerain.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Glen Este, Stillmeadow GC, 4:00 p.m.
    • 2016 Dual Record: 2-5, 0-2 ECC (NR Division I area coaches’ preseason poll)
    • Top Player: Hunter Melton (46.9 average)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Colerain, Miami Whitewater GC, 4:00 p.m.
    • 2016 Dual Record: N/A (NR Division I area coaches’ preseason poll)
    • Top Player: Matthew Laskey (42.7 average)

 

A LOOK BACK: Aug. 29 vs. Loveland/McNicholas: The Eagles competed in a three-way battle with McNicholas and Loveland on Aug. 29 at Terrace Park Country Club. At the event’s conclusion, the Eagles topped their conference rivals by a 158-161 score, but saw McNick take the victory with a team score of 153.

 

Aug. 31 at Anderson: The match with the Redskins scheduled for Aug. 31 has been rescheduled for late September.

 

INSIDE THE ECC: The ECC standings show Loveland with the advantage with a perfect 3-0 league slate. Milford is 1-0 in league head-to-head contests and sits second.

 

Individually, the Eagles feature two the league’s top- ranked golfers in seniors Nathan Arnold (1st-37.1 average) and Aaron Wade (4th-38.5). Sophomore Justin Horn is also just outside the top-10, ranked 11th at 41.0.

 

POLL WATCH: Milford is once again placed sixth in the weekly area Division I coaches’ poll, released on Sept. 6 and sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer. St. Xavier remains the No. 1 ranked squad with eight of the 12 No. 1 votes, just ahead of Lakota East who earned the other four. Mason, Elder and LaSalle comprise the rest of the top-five. The ECC is also represented by Loveland in seventh, with Turpin, Anderson and Kings all receiving votes. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.
