Boys Golf To Close Regular Season, Compete In Sectional Tournament

SETTING THE SCENE: Over two consecutive days, the Milford High School boys golf team will take to the links at Vineyard Golf Course for a pair of competitions, highlighted by the OHSAA Sectional Tournament on Tuesday. First, the Eagles will get a taste of the Vineyard course in a rescheduled dual against Covington Catholic on Monday. Then, it will be 15 schools looking to advance teams and individuals to next week’s district event at one of two OHSAA Sectional Tournaments for teams in the Cincinnati area.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s schedule for the upcoming week:

  • Monday, Oct. 1 vs. Covington Catholic, Vineyard Golf Course, 4:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 2 at OHSAA Sectional Tournament, Vineyard Golf Course, 8:30 a.m.
    • Milford to tee off beginning at 10:00 a.m.
    • Tournament field: Anderson, Goshen, Kings, Lakota East, Lakota West, Little Miami, Loveland, Mason, Milford, Moeller, New Richmond, Sycamore, Turpin, West Clermont, Western Brown
    • Division I Sectionals will qualify four (4) teams and the four (4) individual low scorers not on a qualifying team to the District Tournament at Beavercreek Golf Course, Thursday, October 11, 2018

 

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 27 at ECC Championship: For the third time in his career, senior Justin Horn captured medalist honors at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Tournament, winning the 2018 crown at Glenview Golf Course. Horn went one step better this year, shattering the conference tournament record by shooting a round of 66; five strokes better than the previous mark.

 

The Eagles finished the tournament with a team score of 318 to finish second behind Loveland. The overall conference championship, which is determined by a combination of finishes in the ECC Preview, regular season head-to-head matches and the ECC Championship Tournament will be announced upon the completion of conference play.

 

Horn previously won the tournament as a freshman, before sharing the crown as a junior. Milford’s other scores for the day included: Adam Horn (79), Max Steinmetz (86), Cole Watson (87), Tristin Messerschmidt (89) and Taylor Rehmer (93).

 

Sept. 30 at Hadley Invitational: The Eagles competed in the rescheduled Hadley Invitational, finishing second at Glenview Golf Course, the same course that hosted the ECC Tournament just days earlier. Milford finished second in the 11-team field, finishing behind only Kettering Alter (306-316). Individually, freshman Adam Horn took second place with a score of 73, with older brother Justin just three shots behind.

POLL WATCH: The final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll has Milford finishing in fifth place. Lakota East was the unanimous poll champion, securing all nine first place votes. Mason, Elder and St. Xavier make up the top-five in front of Milford. Also representing the ECC in the final run down are Anderson in sixth, Turpin eight, Loveland in ninth and Kings among others receiving votes.
