Boys Hoops Takes 3-0 Start To First Full Week Of ECC Play

SETTING THE SCENE: With a trio of victories already under their belts, the Milford High School boys basketball team will take on a pair of conference rivals this week when it puts its perfect record on the line. The Eagles have been impressive thus far, winning by an average of almost 14 points per game in a 3-0 start. This week tips off on Tuesday night when the Eagles make the short drive over to Loveland to face the arch rival Tigers. Friday night features a special event with the first-ever ECC Varsity Doubleheader, featuring both Milford varsity squads taking to the floor on the same evening. The foe for the special night of action will be West Clermont, marking Milford’s fist-ever match-up against the new ECC member.

 

A LOOK BACK: December 1 at Sycamore: Milford 62, Sycamore 44

GAME REWIND

Milford turned a five-point halftime lead into a runaway 18-point victory as the Eagles knocked off Sycamore in the season-opener, 62-44. The Eagles played a solid second half, shooting 48 percent from the floor, while scoring 23 fourth quarter points to put the game on ice.

GAME REWIND

The Eagles jumped all over Harrison in the first half then turned back a Wildcat comeback bid after the break, earning a 57-44 road win in a Mercy Health Tipoff Classic match-up. Milford shot a respectable 41 percent in the first half and an even better 46 percent in the second, but the hosts got hot, knocking down 10 of 20 shots after the break to make a game of it. Harrison tried to overcome a game-high 23-point lead near the midpoint of the third, but could get no closer than the final margin of 13 points.

GAME REWIND

The Eagles owned the fourth quarter and that proved to be the difference as Milford gained a measure of redemption from last season with a 49-39 win at Anderson. Leading by just three after three quarters of play, Milford outscored the Redskins 15-8 in the final quarter to seal the win.

On the strength of four made three-pointers and 5 of 6 from the line, Gallimore posted a new best with 19 points, while also yanking down a personal-high eight rebounds.

INSIDE THE ECC: Walnut Hills has won a pair of league contests to open the season with a 2-0 ECC record, the best among all squads. Milford and Loveland also remain unbeaten, each at 1-0.  The schedule for ECC conference games this week includes: Tuesday-Milford at Loveland, Anderson at Kings and Turpin at West Clermont; Friday-West Clermont at Milford, Kings at Loveland, Walnut Hills at Turpin and Withrow at Anderson.

 

POLL WATCH: Milford’s 3-0 start has inched the Eagles closer to the top-10 of the Cincinnati Enquirer area Division I coaches’ poll as they are the first of several squads also receiving votes, and just four points out of the top-10. Moeller continues to be the No. 1 team with 10 of 14 first place votes to edge out Princeton (three first place votes), Mason (one first place vote), the ECC’s Walnut Hills and Lakota East.
