Boys Hoops To Take On Western Brown In Thursday Tournament Opener

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School basketball team is back on the hardwood on Thursday night when the Eagles open OHSAA Tournament play against Western Brown. The match-up is slated for a 6 p.m. tip-off at Hamilton High School. Milford split its last two regular season games of the year to finish the campaign at 10-11 overall. Despite the relatively close proximity between the schools, Thursday’s tilt marks the first meeting on the court since the 2011-12 OHSAA Tournament.

GAME REWIND

Milford finished with season-highs in points and shooting as the Eagles snapped their losing streak with a 68-52 win over Kings. Trailing 16-13 after one quarter, Milford exploded in period two, accounting for 25 points to take a nine-point lead at the half. The third quarter was more of the same as the Eagles stretched their lead to a game-high 21 before settling for a 16-point victory.

GAME REWIND

Withrow shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half which proved too much for Milford to overcome as the visiting Tigers handed the Eagles a 57-42 setback on Senior Night. The Eagles fought from behind throughout the first half, briefly taking a one point lead before Withrow scored the final five points of the half to take a lead it would not relinquish.

POLL WATCH: Milford did not receive any votes in the final edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. The battle for the top spot went to Moeller as the Crusaders received three first place votes to one for second place Princeton. Oak Hills, Walnut Hills from the ECC and Mason complete the top-five.
