Boys Lacrosse Players Earn Postseason Awards
Six members of the 2018 Milford High School boys lacrosse team have been bestowed with recognition for their play this spring by coaches in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference and Ohio Region 4. Headlining the list is senior A.J. Teague, a first team selection by both groups of coaches, as well as the Long Stick Midfielder Player of the Year within the region.
Teague’s classmate, Dax Creager was also a first team All-ECC choice as well as a second team all-region honoree. Other first team all-conference choices include senior Ryan Hezlep and junior Cameron Kells. Senior Michael Waltz represents Milford on the second team, while Gabe Tonucci was the Eagles’ honorable mention choice.
Teague was a defensive standout for the Eagles, leading the ECC with 89 caused turnovers and ranking second with 120 groundballs accumulated. Offensively, Teague scored seven goals and tacked on eight assists.
Creager easily led the conference with 226 draw controls and 162 ground balls despite missing the first four games of the year. He was also a big-time offensive force, ranking second on the team with 34 goals and tacking on 14 assists.
Hezlep, who also earned all-region honorable mention honors, was another top-notch defensive player, causing 79 opponents’ turnovers and collecting 62 ground balls. On the offensive end, Hezlep contributed a pair of goals and an assist.
Kells was Milford’s top goal scorer this spring, tallying 40 goals to rank sixth in the league. He also added 18 assists and 39 ground balls. Kells finished his junior campaign with 12 multiple-goal games, including a high of five in a win at Sycamore.
Waltz put together an outstanding senior campaign that saw him lead the Eagles and rank among the ECC leaders with 23 assists for the year. From his midfield position, Waltz also scored 19 goals and picked up 45 groundballs.
Tonucci was not only Milford’s honorable mention selection from the ECC, but also from the Region 4 coaches’ as well. Holding down the goalie duties, Tonucci tied for fourth among league players with 154 saves, averaging 8.56 per game.
