Boys Lacrosse Puts Three-Game Win Streak On The Line Beginning Saturday

SETTING THE SCENE: Riding a three-game winning streak, the Milford High School boys lacrosse squad begins a busy stretch, beginning with a Saturday evening trip to Centerville. Milford is 3-2 on the season and is averaging nearly nine goals per game during the recent win streak. Following the Centerville trip, Milford returns to the turf inside Eagles Stadium for home games on Monday against Elder and Wednesday against Anderson.

A LOOK BACK: March 16 at Moeller: Milford opened the season with a tall task, taking on the area’s No. 1 team in Moeller, ultimately falling to the Crusaders by a 12-4 score. Cameron Kells got his first varsity experience off on a high note with a goal and an assist. Other Eagles’ goal scorers on the night included Sean Lyons, A.J. Teague and Jordan Winrod. Gabe Tonucci tallied nine saves in goal.

 

March 22 vs. Indian Hill: Game number two featured another top opponent as the Eagles dropped a 17-9 decision to Indian Hill. Four Eagles accounted for the nine goals, led by Michael Waltz with three. Rylan Childs, Cameron Kells and Sean Lyons each scored two, while Carson Geier tallied a pair of assists. Gabe Tonucci recorded 13 saves in the net for Milford.

 

March 28 at Turpin: The Eastern Cincinnati Conference opener also produced the Eagles’ first win of the season as Milford edged Turpin 10-9. Cameron Kells had his second straight big game, this time scoring three goals and adding a pair of assists. Jordan Winrod found the back of the net three times, while Carson Geier scored twice and assisted on two others. A.J. Teague scored a goal and added an assist, with Michael Waltz rounding out the list of scorers. Gabe Tonucci finished with four saves in the win.

 

March 29 at Seven Hills: The Eagles made it two wins in two nights with an 8-5 victory at Seven Hills. Gabe Tonucci had a huge night in goal, saving 17 shots by Seven Hills. Offensively, Cameron Kells went big again, this time with four goals and an assist. Michael Waltz added two goals and an assist, while A.J. Teague and Jordan Winrod scored one goal each.

 

April 4 vs. Walnut Hills: Milford ran its win streak to three and improved to 2-0 in Eastern Cincinnati Conference action with an 11-4 victory over Walnut Hills. A.J. Teague took his turn as leading scorer, finishing with a three-goal hat trick. Dax Creager, Sean Lyons and Jordan Winrod scored two goals each, while also combining for three assists. Carson Geier and Kevin Morrison rounded out the list of goal scorers. Goalie Gabe Tonucci finished with six saves.

POLL WATCH: Milford continues to receive votes in the Cincinnati Enquirer’s weekly area coaches’ poll which encompasses all divisions. Moeller holds the top spot with four first place votes, leading a tie for second between Mariemont and St. Xavier, each with three first place votes. Loveland from the ECC and Lakota West conclude the top-five. The ECC is also represented in the rankings by Kings in seventh. The coaches’ poll is released every Monday at Noon at preps.cincinnati.com/coachespolls.

 

COLLEGE BOUND EAGLES: A trio of seniors on the 2018 Eagles’ roster have already announced their intention to continue their athletic and academic careers on the collegiate level. Dax Creager has signed a National Letter of Intent at High Point University, while Ryan Hezlep will attend the University of Indianapolis and A.J. Teague is headed to Transylvania University.
