Boys Soccer Back On The Pitch For Pair Of Road Contests

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School boys soccer team is back on the pitch this week, putting its 5-1-2 record on the line in a pair of challenging match-ups. The Eagles were defeated for the first time all season last week (a 4-1 loss to Loveland), but bounced back with a solid 4-3 win over Madeira. This week will see the team take to the road twice, first on Thursday night at Turpin and then on Saturday afternoon at Oak Hills.

A LOOK BACK: Sept. 12 vs. Loveland: The Eagles suffered their first defeat of the 2018 season, falling 4-1 to rival Loveland. Junior Joey Round scored his team-best 10th goal of the year in the defeat.

 

Sept. 15 vs. Madeira: Junior Noah Burnett scored a pair of goals to lead the Eagles to a 4-3 victory in a high-scoring affair at Charity J. Lucas Field. For Burnett, the two tallies give him six goals for the year. Senior Cole Cambron scored his fifth goal of the year, while freshman Ryan Henke scored for the second time.

POLL WATCH: Milford’s first loss contributed to the Eagles dropping to 10th in the area Division I coaches’ poll, sponsored by the Cincinnati Enquirer and released on Sept. 17. The top of the poll is dominated by the GCL with Moeller taking 15 of the 16 No. 1 votes, with second place St. Xavier earning one top nod. Then, it’s the ECC as Turpin (one first place vote), Anderson and Loveland make up the rest of the top-five. The fifth ECC team in the top-10 is No. 9 Walnut Hills, with Kings also earning a vote. ROUND, BURNETT WIN ENQUIRER AWARDS: Junior Joey Round and Noah Burnett, thanks to the support of Eagle Nation, have each been voted the winner of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Boys Soccer Player of the Week Award this season. Round won his award on Sept. 7, while Burnett was honored on Sept. 14.
