Boys Soccer Hosts OHSAA Tournament Opener Monday Against Northwest

SETTING THE SCENE: Riding a five-match win streak and seeded eighth overall, the Milford High School boys soccer team will open the 2018 OHSAA Tournament on Monday night, hosting Northwest. The Eagles are playing their best soccer of the year, with the current win streak pushing their record to 11-3-2. The opening round match-up features Milford taking on the No. 26 Knights, with a 7 p.m. kickoff on tap.

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET: A look at Milford’s OHSAA Tournament opponent:

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 9 vs. McNicholas: Matching up with McNicholas for just the second time ever and the first time since 1983, the Eagles came up with a 2-1 win over the Rockets. Junior Joey Round extended his team-lead in goals scored, finding the back of the net for the 14th time this season. Ryan Henke added the fifth goal of his freshman season in the triumph.

 

Oct. 11 vs. Walnut Hills: Milford closed the regular season with a 2-1 win over Walnut Hills in the annual ECC Battle of the Eagles. Freshman Ryan Henke scored his fourth goal in the last six matches to lead Milford, while senior Harrison Eckels added his fourth goal of 2018.

 

TOURNEY TALK: The Eagles were awarded the No. 8 seed in the OHSAA Sectional Tournament which opens next week. Milford will host No. 26 Northwest on Monday, Oct. 15 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Click here for Milford’s tournament bracket.

 

The schedule for ECC teams in the tournament includes: No. 3 Turpin vs. winner of No. 11 Elder-No. 23 Princeton (Oct. 15, 7:00 p.m. at Turpin), No. 4 Anderson vs. winner of No. 12 Lebanon-No. 14 LaSalle (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Anderson), No. 6 Loveland vs. No. 30 Edgewood (Oct. 15, 7:00 p.m. at Loveland), No. 10 Walnut Hills vs. winner of No. 18 Fairfield-No. 19 Colerain (Oct. 18, 7:00 p.m. at Walnut Hills), No. 16 Kings vs. No. 17 Oak Hills (Oct. 15, 7:00 p.m. at Kings), No. 24 West Clermont vs. No. 21 Western Brown (Oct. 15, 7:00 p.m. at Western Brown) and No. 27 Withrow vs. winner of No. 8 Milford-No. 26 Northwest (Oct. 18 at TBD).

POLL WATCH: Milford finished eighth in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Moeller was crowned this season’s poll champions, after earning all but one of the 17 first place votes. St. Xavier, Turpin, Anderson and a tie between Loveland and Mason complete the top-five. Ninth place Carroll earned the other No. 1 vote. In addition to four ECC teams in the top-10, Kings and Walnut Hills are among other schools receiving votes. ROUND, BURNETT WIN ENQUIRER AWARDS: Junior Joey Round and Noah Burnett, thanks to the support of Eagle Nation, have each been voted the winner of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Boys Soccer Player of the Week Award this season. Round won his award on Sept. 7, while Burnett was honored on Sept. 14.
