Boys Soccer Places Six On All-ECC Teams
Following a successful season that featured 13 victories, including two in the OHSAA Tournament, six members of the Milford High School boys soccer squad have been honored by the head coaches of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference with inclusion on the all-conference squads. Included among the six is a trio of first team honorees, marking the second straight year that Eagles have placed three on the top squad.
The first team selections for 2018 are juniors Kyle Boehm, Noah Hjelming and Joey Round. Picked for second team honors were sophomore Jacob Haskins and freshman Ryan Henke, while senior Harrison Eckels was tabbed honorable mention. In addition, Boehm and Hjelming earned All-Southwest Ohio honors for their play this fall.
Boehm was a stalwart on defense for the Eagles from the defender position, helping an Eagle defense that allowed just over one goal per match. Offensively, Boehm contributed one goal and added three assists for five points.
Like Boehm, Hjelming’s contributions to the Eagles’ success are hard to measure by numbers. A key player in the midfield, Hjelming scored two goals and tacked on one assist to finish with five points.
Round was one of the most prolific scorers in the ECC, raking among the league leaders in both goals and points. His team-best 14 goals tied for third in the league, while his 29 points placed him fifth.
Haskins was another force in the back for the Eagles on defense. During 2018, Haskins was a key defender for a team that posted four shutouts, while holding opponents to just one goal in eight other contests.
Henke burst onto the scene in a big way, joining the varsity squad from the outset of his freshman campaign. His initial high school season featured eight goals, good for a tie for third on the Eagles, along with three assists for a total of 19 points.
Eckels was another big-time defender for the Eagles who also got it done on offense. He wrapped up his senior season with four goals, three assists and 11 points coming out of the back.
Milford finished the year 13-4-2 overall and tied for third in the ECC at 4-2-1. The won a pair of tournament matches before falling to St. Xavier in the OHSAA District Semifinals.
