Boys Soccer To Face Four In Season’s First Week

SETTING THE SCENE: Riding a streak of five consecutive seasons with a winning or .500 record, the Milford High School boys soccer team will kick off the 2018 season with four games, all on the road in eight days beginning on Friday. Brian Croston returns at the helm of the program, a post he has held since 2006, with 137 victories to his credit. The Eagles will count on a large, eight-member senior class to set the stage for another winning campaign.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: The Eagles feature plenty of experience with 10 returnees dotting the roster, including four all-conference performers. After starting the season on junior varsity, Jacob Haskins came on strong, capping his freshman season by earning first team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference honors. Another defender, junior Noah Hjelmeng, also earned first team conference honors. Milford’s top scorer from last year, second team selection Noah Burnett is also back after finishing with 12 goals and a pair of assists last year. Junior Joey Round was also a second team All-ECC selection last year.

 

Other returnees to the roster include seniors Noah Baker, Cole Cambron, Harrison Eckels and Zach Mash, along with juniors Kyle Boehm and Josh Henke. Newcomers to the team this year include seniors Aaron Bumgarner, Jonah Nye, Collin Rogus and Cameron Sherman, juniors Mason Harvey and Nick Wiley and freshmen Ryan Henke and Christian Ohmer.

POLL WATCH: Milford is one of several squads, including two from the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, to be listed among others receiving votes in the preseason Cincinnati Enquirer Division I coaches’ poll. The top-three squads in the rankings each earned five first place votes with Mason leading the trio that also included Moeller and St. Xavier. Fourth place Anderson from the ECC and Lakota West round out the top-five, while each receiving one first place vote. Other ECC teams in the rankings include Loveland in eighth, Turpin in ninth and Walnut Hills joining Milford in the others section of the poll.
