Boys Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season With Pair Of Home Matches

SETTING THE SCENE: Riding a season-best three-match winning streak, the Milford High School boys soccer team will try to continue building momentum heading into the OHSAA Tournament with a pair of matches in the last week of the regular season. The Eagles are 9-3-2 on the year and 3-2-1 in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. After a non-conference tilt against McNicholas opens this week, the Eagles will try to move into third place in the final league standings with a match-up against Walnut Hills on Thursday evening.

A LOOK BACK: Oct. 2 vs. Withrow: Milford stayed perfect all-time against Withrow with a 2-0 win over the Tigers. Freshman Ryan Henke scored his third goal of the season, while junior Nick Wiley added his first career goal. Senior Cole Cambron picked up an assist in the win.

 

Oct. 4 at Anderson: The Eagles scored one of their biggest wins of the season, knocking off the two-time defending ECC Champions, Anderson, by a 3-2 score. Freshman Ryan Henke scored for the second straight match, his fourth of the season, while Joey Round tallied his team-best 12th goal of the year. Senior Harrison Eckels found the back of the net for the third time and classmate Cole Cambron had an assist, his team-leading seventh of the year.

 

Oct. 6 vs. Roger Bacon: Senior goalkeeper Zach Mash tallied his fourth shutout of the season, helping the Eagles to a 3-0 win over Roger Bacon. Junior Joey Round keyed the offense with his 13th goal of the year, while also earning an assist. Round’s classmate, Noah Burnett scored for the eighth time this season and another junior, Josh Henke scored his first goal of 2018.

 

TOURNEY TALK: The Eagles were awarded the No. 8 seed in the OHSAA Sectional Tournament which opens next week. Milford will host No. 26 Northwest on Monday, Oct. 15 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Click here for Milford’s tournament bracket.

POLL WATCH: Milford finished eighth in the final Cincinnati Enquirer Division I area coaches’ poll. Moeller was crowned this season’s poll champions, after earning all but one of the 17 first place votes. St. Xavier, Turpin, Anderson and a tie between Loveland and Mason complete the top-five. Ninth place Carroll earned the other No. 1 vote. In addition to four ECC teams in the top-10, Kings and Walnut Hills are among other schools receiving votes. ROUND, BURNETT WIN ENQUIRER AWARDS: Junior Joey Round and Noah Burnett, thanks to the support of Eagle Nation, have each been voted the winner of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Boys Soccer Player of the Week Award this season. Round won his award on Sept. 7, while Burnett was honored on Sept. 14.
