Boys Take Second At Harrison Cross Country Invite; Kings Invitational Up Next
SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s boys cross country posted their best overall team finish of the season at the Harrison Invitational last week, claiming second place. Now the team will have a quick turnaround and head to the Kings Invite for a rare weekday contest.
A LOOK BACK: Milford’s varsity boys impressed at the Harrison High School Invitational, where they finished in second place overall. Milford’s top runner, Harris Craycraft, placed fourth. A tight pack of Eagles followed close behind, as Peter Kroeger, Clayton Virzi, and Sean Vonderhaar were all within 14 seconds of Craycraft. Kroeger, with a new career PR of 17:29, crossed the finish in 8th place. Virzi and Vonderhaar were close behind; Virzi placed 11th at 17:33, and Vonderhaar’s new career PR of 17:34 was good for 12th place. Fifth man Luke Schneider, whose new career best this week of 18:08, landed him 27th overall.
The team’s second place finish was their best this season thus far. The ECC’s Anderson was able to pull away and beat Milford for the championship, but only by 13 points. St. Xavier, Lakota East and Ross rounded out the top five teams. Joseph Ingram of Anderson took the top individual spot.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Eagles have little time to enjoy all those new career bests, as they will be back in action for a rare weekday race at the Kings High School Invitational. The Kings Invite will be held Tuesday at Landen Park. Varsity races are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
INSIDE THE ECC: The top four runners for Milford, all juniors, fall in the top twenty in the ECC Standings for boys cross country. Harris Craycraft (11th) leads the Eagles, followed closely by Clayton Virzi (t-12th). Peter Kroeger, with a new career PR of 17:29, moved up to 18th, while Sean Vonderhaar’s new career PR of 17:34 is good for 20th in the conference. Fifth man Luke Schneider’s ranking improved to 28th on the heels of his new career best this week, 18:08.
POLL WATCH: No change in the top two this week of the area coaches’ poll, as Xavier and Mason are number one and two in week five. LaSalle moved past Elder, and Lebanon held onto the fifth position. Kings of the ECC also kept their ranking of sixth, as did Loveland in eighth and Turpin moved up one spot to ninth. Anderson received nine votes; Milford was not listed in the poll this week.
