Boys Tennis Wins Coaches Classic Flight C; ECC Championships Up Next

SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s boys tennis team ended the week with a team championship.  The Eagles claimed two individual first place finishes to help win Flight C of the GCTCA Coaches Classic.  The week ahead for Milford includes the ECC Championships as well as the final match of the regular season.

 

A LOOK BACK:  Milford hosted Loveland on Fri., April 27 for the final ECC match of the regular season.  The team and fans also honored seniors Cameron Loux, Ben Mason, Holden Owens, Mrigank Sharma, and Reed Spencer as they played on the home court for the final time.  Unfortunately, the Eagles fell to the Tigers 4-1.  Holden Owens dominated Ruble at first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for Milford.  Ben Mason lost 1-6, 3-6 to Hogan; Loveland’s Greenberg defeated Reed Spencer 6-6 (7-4), 6-4; Cameron Loux/Mark Ostrander lost 6-6 (7-1), 2-6 to Ditchen/Huether; and Hogan/Smith won over Mrigank Sharma/Michael Faler 6-0,6-4.

Milford’s boys tennis team won the Flight C Team Championship of the GCTCA Coaches Classic.  Helping the Eagles to the championship were first place finishes from both Ben Mason (second singles) and Mark Ostrander (third singles).  The tournament took place Thurs., April 26 and Sat., April 28th, and Milford took first out of eight teams.  Final results:

A LOOK AHEAD:  The ECC Championships will be held on Tues., May 1, and the regular season will end with Milford traveling to Summit Country Day School.

 

At the 2017 ECC Championships, the Eagles placed third overall.  Among the current players, Ben Mason reached the finals at second singles and finished in second place.  Both Holden Owens (first singles) and Reed Spencer (third singles) finished in third place.

  • Wednesday, 5/2:          Milford @ Summit Country Day School, SCD Athletic Complex, 4:00 pm

  

A LOOK AHEAD AT THE POSTSEASON: The 2018 Boys Tennis Sectional Tournaments will begin the week of May 7.  Milford will begin tournament play either Wed., May 9 or Fri., May 11.  Semifinals, consolation, and finals will be played on Sat., May 12.

  

INSIDE THE ECC: As of April 29, Turpin leads the conference at 5-0 with one ECC score outstanding.  Anderson follows at 5-1, and Loveland finishes the regular season at 4-2.  Walnut Hills is 3-3, Kings at 2-4 and Milford 1-5. With the score from Turpin still outstanding, West Clermont stands at 0-5.

  

POLL WATCH:  Mason, St. Xavier, Sycamore, the ECC’s Turpin and Lakota East, Anderson and Loveland again remained the top seven teams Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll for week six.   Milford received seven votes and was joined by Walnut Hills (6).
