boys volleyball opens postseason at home, will host Fairfield

Posted on: May 21, 2017

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s boys volleyball team will open the postseason at home this week, a first round rematch with Fairfield to be held at home on Monday, May 22nd.  The Eagles closed out the regular season last week with a win over Monroe.

A LOOK BACK:  Milford’s final regular season match at Monroe last week was a bit more exciting than expected, as the Eagles easily took down Monroe earlier in the season at a tri-match at Mason.  While Milford won the first two sets, Monroe stormed back to take the third, 25-22.  Monroe remained competitive and nearly forced a fifth set, but Milford pulled out another 25-23 win to take the match.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Milford will host Fairfield in the first round of the OHSBVA State Tournament, at 5:30 pm on Monday, 5/22.   The Eagles are in the South Region, which includes Archbishop Moeller, Colerain, Elder, Fairfield, LaSalle, Loveland, Mason, Milford, Oak Hills, Princeton, St. Xavier, Sycamore, Walnut Hills, and West Clermont.

Milford fell to Fairfield in early April, in just the third match of the season, though the Eagles held their own with the #9 ranked team.  While Fairfield opened with narrow wins of 25-22 and 25-21, Milford rallied to win set three, 25-22.  The Eagles couldn’t hold on, however, and dropped the fourth set 25-18 for a final of 3-1.

POLL WATCH:  Milford fell out of the top ten of the OHSBVA poll for the South Region, week ending May 14th.  Moeller, Elder, St. Xavier, LaSalle occupy the top four spots, followed by McNicholas, Fairfield, Oak Hills, Princeton, Loveland and Mason.

Moeller moved up from third to first in the final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll of the season.  Elder, St. Xavier, Lakota East and LaSalle will end the season in the top five, followed by Alter, Fairfield, Oak Hills, Fenwick and McNicholas. Milford received two votes, joined by Loveland (4) and Walnut Hills (1).
