Boys Volleyball Season Begins Hosting Walnut Hills, LaSalle

Posted on: April 1, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE:  For the fifth consecutive season, Head Coach Jim Siciliano returns to lead the Eagles in 2018.  Siciliano’s team includes eight varsity members from a squad that in 2017 posted a 12-7 overall record and who led the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, though boys volleyball is not recognized as an official conference sport.  With four of the eight athletes in their third year on the varsity roster, optimism is high for successful season.

TEAM PREVIEW:  The 2018 team returns seven seniors, including Peter Kroeger and junior Caleb Cambron.  Though the Eastern Cincinnati Conference does not sanction boys volleyball as a league sport, coaches from participating schools selected athletes to receive conference recognition in 2017 and Cambron and Kroeger were both recognized as All-ECC first team selections.

Veterans Ben Harris and Ryan Schroeder received honorable mention recognition in 2017 as well, and will be joined again by classmates Luken Dalessandro, Beck Nielsen, Limo Rustom and Justin Singleton.

Milford is assigned to the Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association’s South Division I, which includes Archbishop Moeller, Colerain, Elder, Fairfield, Mason, Oak Hills, Princeton, St. Xavier and Sycamore, along with the ECC members Loveland, Walnut Hills and West Clermont.

THE WEEK AHEAD:  The Eagles open the season following spring break.  The schedule includes the home opener with Walnut Hills; the Eagles will then host #6 LaSalle.  Milford squad will spend Saturday at a tri-match with Mason and Sycamore.

  • Tuesday, 4/3:                        Walnut Hills High School @ Milford, 6:45 pm

  • Saturday, 4/7:                      Milford @ Mason High School, Mason Middle School, 10:00 am

POLL WATCH:  Though not ranked in the top ten, Milford’s boys volleyball team received two votes in the Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ preseason poll from March 19. The 2018 season will open with St. Xavier atop the poll, followed by Elder, Moeller, Alter and Lakota East; Fenwick, LaSalle, Oak Hills, McNicholas, and Fairfield round out the top ten.  While the Eastern Cincinnati Conference is not represented in the top ten, Loveland (8) joins Milford with votes in the preseason poll.

The poll for week one was released March 26, as some local programs opened the season prior to Milford.  Though St. Xavier remained the top ranked program, Elder fell from second to fourth, and Moeller and Alter each moved up to second and third respectively.  Lakota East held onto the fifth spot.  The ECC’s Loveland moved into the top ten at tenth.  Walnut Hills received three votes, and Milford, not yet competing, did not receive any votes in week one.  Find the latest area coaches’ poll HERE.

The Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association preseason poll was released on March 26 as well.  St. Xavier leads in the South Region followed by Elder, Moeller, McNicholas and LaSalle.  Oak Hills ranked sixth followed by Fairfield, Loveland, Mason and Princeton rounding out the top ten.

The OHSBVA poll for week one was released on April 2, and Moeller took over the top spot from St. Xavier, who fell to third.  Elder remained in second, and LaSalle rose to fourth while McNicholas fell from fourth to fifth.  Oak Hills, Fairfield, Loveland and Mason remain sixth through ninth, while Roger Bacon replaced Princeton in tenth.  Milford, still yet to begin their season, was not ranked. Click HERE for the latest OHSBVA poll.
