Boys Volleyball to Host Colerain in First Round of OHSBVA Tournament

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford’s boys volleyball team will finish the regular season at 16-3, the best overall record and best winning percentage in the history of the program.  The Eagles earned a No. 5 seed and will take an eleven game win streak into the postseason.

The Milford High School boys volleyball team will open OHSBVA Tournament play on Tuesday night when the Eagles host No. 12 Colerain.  Milford is 2-0 against Colerain this season, having won 3-0 on both Apr. 17 and May 15.

  • Tuesday, May 22 vs. Colerain, 6:00 p.m., Milford High School

Should the Eagles win and advance, they will play the winner of Tuesday’s battle between No. 3 Elder vs. No. 13 Sycamore.  The second round will be played on Thurs., May 24 at St. Xavier

The schedule for ECC teams in the tournament includes: No. 4 Loveland vs. No. 8 Walnut Hills (May 21, 7:00 pm at Loveland), and No. 11 West Clermont vs. No. 7 Mason (May 21, 6:30 pm at Mason).

  

A LOOK BACK:  Facing Colerain for the second time, the Eagles took a 3-0 victory on Colerain’s home court on Tues., May 15.  Milford took the match with games of 25-13, 26-7 and 25-8. 

The Eagles played spoiler as Fairfield celebrated senior night on Wed., May 16.  After a game with a number of lead changes, the Indians claimed a close first 25-21.  The Eagles, however, rebounded with a win in another tight second game 25-22, and went on to a 3-1 by defeating Fairfield in both the third and fourth games, each by scores of 25-13.

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  With just one loss to Milford, Loveland (5-1) will win the unofficial ECC title for 2018.  Milford (4-2) ends the season in second, followed by Walnut Hills (3-3) and West Clermont (0-6). Find the final unofficial ECC standings HERE.

  

POLL WATCH:  The final OHSBVA’s South Region poll was released on May 22, and Milford will end the year at number five. The top five remained the same from the previous week; Moeller, St. Xavier, Elder, Loveland and Milford, followed by Oak Hills and LaSalle.  Mason moved up to eighth, replacing Fairfield who fell out of the top ten following a loss to Milford. McNicholas and Sycamore round out the top ten. Find the final OHSBVA rankings HERE

Milford entered the top ten in the final Cincinnati Enquirer area coaches’ poll released May 14.  St. Xavier replaced Moeller at the top of the poll, while Moeller fell to second Elder remained in third.  Lakota East rose to fourth and Alter fell to fifth. Fenwick will end the year in sixth followed by the ECC’s Loveland and Milford in seventh and eighth respectively.  Carroll is ninth, with Hamilton, LaSalle and Oak Hills all tied for tenth.
