Posted on: September 7, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE: The Milford High School boys water polo team is headed to Columbus this weekend as the Eagles take part in one of the top events of the regular season, the Ohio Cup. Held yearly over a two-weekend period in the Columbus suburb of Worthington, the Ohio Cup draws squads from Ohio and beyond. While the boys will be in action this weekend, the girls will get their shot at the Ohio Cup the week following.

THE BOYS REPORT: The Eagles are off to a 2-7 start early in the season, following a heartbreaking 13-12 loss to Mason on Tuesday evening. Milford’s Ohio Cup schedule starts on Saturday with pool play before moving onto championship play on Sunday pending the results of the day prior. A look at Milford’s Saturday slate:

  • Noon vs. Thomas Worthington High School
  • 3:30 p.m. vs. Chicago Park High School
  • 7:00 p.m. vs. Napoleon High School

THE GIRLS REPORT: The girls squad, idle from competition this weekend, enjoyed a great week last week, winning three of four contests to improve to 6-6 on the season. The Eagles went 2-1 at their own invitational, opening play with an 11-7 win over Princeton. After a tough loss to the Mavericks Gold team, Milford bounced back with an 8-7 triumph over Sycamore. In a Tuesday night game at Mason, the Eagles were victorious again, this time by a 9-5 score. Against Princeton, senior Stephanie Karan had a big performance, scoring four goals, adding a pair of steals and picking up a blocked girl in a man-down situation.
