Bronaugh Wins Third MIT Championship; St. Xavier, Anderson And Kings Up Next For Milford Wrestling

Posted on: February 1, 2018

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford will have a preview of some of the competition at the upcoming Eastern Cincinnati Conference championships when they face Anderson and Kings this weekend.  Prior to that meeting, the Eagles will head to St. Xavier High School on Friday.  Last week, Kobey Bronaugh won his third consecutive championship at the Milford Invitational Tournament.

A LOOK BACK:  The Eagles started the weekend with the OHSAA Regional Dual Team Tournament.  The Tournament was held at Western Brown High School, and #6 Milford was paired with #3 Little Miami.  Though many of the individual matches went into the third period, Little Miami advanced as a team with a 66-12 victory.  Individual winners included Kobey Bronaugh (#132) with a quick fall in the first period, his 24th win of the season and 17th fall, and Connor Hawkins (#182), who with a come-from-behind fall in the third period collected his first varsity win.

Suffering from some injuries and illness, the wrestling Eagles were unable to defend their Milford Invitational Tournament title from 2017.  Kobey Bronaugh claimed his third consecutive MIT championship, this year at #132.  Ray Clayton nearly mounted a comeback over his Winton Wood opponent in the #120 championship round, but placed an impressive second.  Justin Bell (#170) visited the podium for the first time in a varsity tournament, in sixth place.

Milford ended the tournament tied with Indian Hill in eleventh place. The MIT featured seventeen teams from the Cincinnati region, four of those from the ECC as a number of programs ranked in the top ten of the area coaches’ poll: #3 Harrison from Division I, and #7 Indian Hill, #9 New Richmond, and #10 Monroe from Division II-III.
