A LOOK BACK: April 24 at Milford: Loveland 5, Milford 2

GAME REWIND

Milford pitching struck out 17 Loveland hitters, including 14 by lefty Zach Byron, but the Tigers erupted for five runs in the fifth to ruin the outing for Byron with a 5-2 victory. The team strikeout total was the most by the Eagles since a 14-K performance against Cincinnati Country Day in 2017.

The Eagles took an early lead on an RBI groundout by Brady Sluder in the second. On the mound, Byron was cruising, posting nine strikeouts in the first three innings. But with two outs and a man on, Loveland strung together consecutive doubles and a two-run single as they batted around in the frame.

Milford fought to the end, getting one run back in the seventh on a Lucas Neidhart RBI single. But University of Cincinnati commit Zach Segal finished off his complete game win by coaxing a game-ending double play.

GAME REWIND

Centerville broke open a close game by batting around and scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning as the Elks pulled away from Milford for a 10-5 victory during Big League Weekend at Great American Ballpark. The Eagles had chances in nearly every inning, but were plagued by nine runners left on base, including a pair of early rally killing double plays.

The Elks struck first with a single run in the second and two more in the third. Milford had chances in each of the first two frames, but Elks hurler Ben Wesney induced a pair of twin killings. The Eagles got on the board in the fourth when Brady Sluder plated Max Ward with an RBI double.

Centerville moved further in front with its six-run fifth inning that Milford couldn’t recover from. The Eagles did get two of the runs back in their half of the fifth on a two-run double by Calvin Hunter. The day’s scoring wrapped up with an Elks run in the top of the seventh and two by Milford in its half of the frame. The Eagles got their markers on a Hunter Frank sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Sluder.
