CONFERNCE PLAY OPENS FOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

SETTING THE SCENE: Milford’s girls volleyball team is off to a strong start, and will enter the second week of competition at 3-1 overall.  The week ahead includes the start of Eastern Cincinnati Conference play and the Eagles will head to Kings and Withrow. 

 

THE UPCOMING DOCKET:  The Lady Eagles will open the season with three straight non-conference contests on the road including Talawanda, Sycamore and Western Brown.  Milford will end the week with their first match on the home court, a date with McNicholas who tied for #1 in the Division II preseason voting.

  • Tuesday, 8/28:             Milford @ Kings High School, 7:00 pm
  • Thursday, 8/30:           Milford @ Withrow High School, 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, 9/1:              Oak Hills High School @ Milford, 12:00 pm

 

A LOOK BACK:

August 18 at Talawanda: Milford 3, Talawanda 0

The Lady Eagles started the season with a victory over Talawanda in straight sets: 25-11, 25-7, 25-17.

August 21 at Sycamore: Milford 3, Sycamore 1

After dropping the first set 21-25 to the Aves, the Lady Eagles won the next three 25-23, 25-11, and 25-21 for the victory.

August 23 at Western Brown: Milford 3, Western Brown 1

Milford won their third straight match in three straight sets over Western Brown: 25-11, 25-8, 25-13.

August 25 at Milford: McNicholas 3, Milford 1

After winning the first set, Milford suffered their first loss of the season to McNicholas, #1 in Div. II area coaches’ poll: 25-21, 11-25, 22-25, 21-25.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  With Eastern Cincinnati Conference league games yet to be played, the fight for the ECC is wide open.  Following just four contests, a number of Eagles are already leaders in the EEC top ten. 

  • Attacks:  Erika Sharp (2nd), Morgan Whitaker (3rd)
  • Serves: Emily Morgan (1st), Abby Thierauf (t-2nd), Molly Buck (t-4th), Julia Gill (t-7th), Sharp (t-7th)
  • Assists:  Thierauf (2nd), Morgan (8th)
  • Digs:  Morgan (2nd)
  • Blocks:  Sharp (t-6th), Whitaker (t-10th)

 

POLL WATCH: The top five programs remained unchanged in the area coaches’ poll for week two, as Ursuline Academy, Mt. Notre Dame, Mercy McAuley, Mason and St. Ursula held at their rankings from week one.  The ECC’s Loveland (seventh) and Turpin (ninth) held as well, and Anderson garnered enough votes to enter back into the poll at tenth.  The remaining ECC teams all received votes in the poll for week two: Milford (11), West Clermont (12), Kings (11) and Walnut Hills (11), and Withrow (3).  Find the most recent poll HERE.
