Cooper Named First-Team At SWOC/ECC Challenge; Lancer Baker Bash Awaits Boys Bowling

SETTING THE SCENE:  Milford has momentum heading into another busy week, when they will face the ECC’s Turpin as well as attend the annual Lancer Baker Bash.  The boys bowling team collected two more victories including a third place finish at the SWOC/ECC Challenge where Josh Cooper received First-Team All-Tournament recognition.

  

A LOOK BACK:  The Eagles opened 2018 as they ended 2017, with a victory over Williamsburg.  Though there were no perfect games in the rematch, Milford won 2386-1548.  Rodney Gorley posted the high game for Milford, 236, as well as a 391 high series for the team.   Joining Gorley with two games each were Josh Cooper (387), Nathan McGeorge (357), and Nathan Hawkins (349).  Jacob Donovan’s 200 in game two helped the Eagles to the win on Wed., 1/3.

Milford met up with New Richmond the following day, and came away with another win as they posted a 2838-2407 victory.  McGeorge led the Eagles with a 454 high series, followed by Cooper’s game of 249 and 444 series, a 438 series by Hawkins, and Donovan’s 390.  Sophomore Nick Murphy’s 235 was a personal best in varsity action this season, and Gorley joined in the win with a 168.

The Eagles placed third at the always exciting ECC/SWOC Tournament.  Josh Cooper earned First Team All-Tournament recognition, with games of 217, 243, and 235 for an average of 231 and total of 695 pins.  Three Eagles posted averages of over 200 for three games, including Hawkins (212), Gorley (211), and McGeorge (209).  Other Eagles each contributing one game include Donovan (171) and Murphy (170).

 

A LOOK AHEAD:  Milford will face Turpin of the ECC this week, as well as the annual Lancer Baker Bash.  The boys of Milford brought home their first ever championship in boys bowling at the 2017 Lancer Baker Bash, when the team advanced with wins over teams routinely ranked among the top in the Tri-State.

  • Wednesday, 1/10:        Turpin High School @ Milford, Cherry Grove Lanes, 3:30 pm
  • Saturday, 1/13:            Milford at LaSalle Lancer Baker Bash, Northwest Lanes, 9:00 am

 

INSIDE THE ECC:  With no conference action once again, the ECC standings remain unchanged and West Clermont remains the conference leader at 6-0.  Kings is second at 3-1, followed by the 4-2 Eagles.  Loveland is 3-3, followed by Walnut Hills at 0-2, and Anderson and Turpin at 0-4. However, Milford’s team average improved to 955.6, moving them past West Clermont (947.7) to lead the league.  Find ECC standings and statistics HERE.

Four Milford bowlers remain in the top ten of all ECC individual categories:

Josh Cooper:  overall average (2nd – 207.9); high game (1st - 300); series high (5th – 479)

Rodney Gorley:  overall average (5th – 199.0); high game (t-6th – 256); series high (2nd – 500)

Nathan Hawkins:  overall average (7th – 195.2); high game (4th – 263); series high (3rd – 498)

Nathan McGeorge:  overall average (1st – 208.8); high game (5th - 257); series high (6th – 478)

POLL WATCH:  There were no changes in the top four of the Enquirer’s area coaches’ poll for week eight as Oak Hills, Elder, Mason, Northwest held onto their rankings, while St. Xavier moved past LaSalle for fifth.  The ECC’s West Clermont fell to eighth from sixth.  Milford, previously in a three-way tie for ninth with Colerain and Middletown, fell out of the top ten but sits just outside with thirteen votes.  Kings (8) joined Milford in receiving votes in the coaches’ poll in week eight.  Click HERE for the most recent area coaches’ poll.
