Craycraft Advances to Regional Cross Country Tournament

Posted on: October 22, 2017

For the first time in four years, the Milford’s boys cross country team will have a representative competing at the Division I Regional Cross Country Tournament.

Harris Craycraft advanced out of the OHSAA District Championship with a twelfth place finish on Sat., Oct. 21 at Voice of America Park.  Craycraft’s time of 16.37.5 essentially equaled his career best of 16:37.3 earlier this year at the East Classic.

The top sixteen individuals advanced to Regionals, which led to heartbreak for Clayton Virzi.  Virzi, who has been outstanding in his senior season, fell shy of qualifying by a mere tenth of a second.  His time of 16:41.6 placed him seventeenth behind Toon of Oak Hills, who crossed the finish in 16:41.5 to claim the final qualifying position.

Milford’s Sean Vonderhaar (17:40.5, 41st) was followed by fellow seniors Will Stout (17:56.0, 53rd) and Peter Kroeger (17:56.5, 54th).   Sophomores Michael Faler (18:59.5, 74th) and Payne Ackermann (19:13.6, 76th) rounded out the field for the Eagles and ended the season with career best times.

Milford’s team competed in Race B which included fourteen teams.  With six runners finishing in the top ten, Mason claimed the team championship.  Mason, Turpin, Elder and Anderson finished as the top four teams who advance to Regionals.  The ECC had a strong showing, as Loveland (5th) and Milford (7th) joined Turpin and Anderson in the top half of all teams.

Abel Nijakowski of Mason won the District Championship in Race B in 15.39.8, followed by teammate Michael Uematsu in second and Loveland’s Greg Ballman in third.
