Eagles Strike Early, Crush Walnut Hills On Homecoming

Posted on: September 30, 2022

Milford raced to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back, cruising past Walnut Hills by a 42-0 final score on Homecoming at Eagle Stadium Powered by Cullen Electric. The shutout was Milford’s first since 2017, also against Walnut Hills. Austin Hardin kept up his outstanding play, tossing five touchdowns, all in the first half to pace the Eagles.

Milford held the ball for a total of just two minutes in running out to a 21-0 lead. Hardin got the night going, connecting with Reece Davis for a 35-yard TD strike on Milford’s first possession. Turnovers and short field helped MHS to its next three scores. The next time Walnut had the ball, it moved deep into Milford territory, but Andrew Littrell picked off a TJ Nelson pass and rumbled 77 yards to the Walnut five-yard line. Two plays later, Hardin connected with Landen Wisbey for a four-yard TD.

A short Walnut punt gave Milford prime field possession on its next drive and led to its third score. Cam Livingston hauled in a screen pass from Hardin and followed a convoy of blockers to paydirt from 24 yards out. Luke Ray got Hardin TD pass number four shortly after, racing in from 36 yards out.

As the scoreboard flipped to the second quarter, Littrell made another big play for the Milford D. William Riesenberg came up with a strip sack of Nelson which Littrell scooped up and took in from 10 yards out, marking the first fumble return for a TD since 2014 against Withrow. The final score of the half and ultimately the night came with just 25 seconds till halftime and it was the familiar Hardin-Davis connection, this time from 27 yards out.

Hardin finished the night 8 of 11 passing for 157 yards with his five TDs. Davis tallied a team-best 62 yards receiving while Natwan Webster paced the ground game with 58 yards. Nick Scally topped the defense with 11 tackles, while Riesenberg had seven, including 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Now at 6-1 and 5-1 in the ECC, the Eagles will prep for a huge challenge in Week 8 when league-leading and defending state champion Winton Woods comes to town for Senior Night.
